Nokia N97 Mini Announced, Specced
Yet more news from Nokia World 09. Now we have confirmation and information about the brand-new Nokia N97 "Mini", slimmed down version of the current Nokia flagship smartphone. On the whole, it looks like a very solid compromise between power, cost, and size.
The mini has the same 8 GB of storage as its older brother. It sports a 3.2" touchscreen and a sliding QWERTY keyboard. The frame is 14.2" mm thin, and its battery supports up to 12 days of stand-by time and up to 28 hours of music playback. They neglected to release any information on how much call time we can get out of a battery charge.

Nokia N97 June Release Rumor
The Nokia N97 has a lot of hype to live up to. It's been billed as an iPhone competitor, and soon we'll get to see how apt that classification is. A new rumor has the N97 shipping to stores on June 2nd. Boy Genius has come across a screenshot from the website of a major distributor, which lists the shipping date and gives us a few other tantalizing rumors.
We can see from the screenshot that the N97's list price is set at $699, but that the customer price is somewhat lower. It's been partially obscured, but we can tell that the cost is somewhere around $500, I'm expecting $599 myself. The pre-orders already sold for $454.35, so your chances of getting a cheaper deal on an N97 may already be past.

Nokia N97 Review says Software is dated
Nokia might have been better advised not to let hands touch the Nokia N97 yet. Nokia announced the N97 with big fanfare this week. From a design and hardware stand point the Nokia N97 is ready to battle the iPhone, Google phone, and the BlackBerry Storm.
Engadget has published an in-depth hands-on review of the Nokia N97 and finds that behind the swank home page screen with widget support is a dated user interface that is not optimized for touchscreen use.
Additionally the slide out keyboard is not the greatest Nokia has in its line-up.

Nokia N97 Videos show a promising Interface
Nokia unveiled today their top of the line touchscreen handset with the Nokia N97. Nokia chose to offer both a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard as input options for the Nokia N97. This is nothing new and HTC and Sony Ericsson are offering such solutions. The only way Nokia can stand out is via the user interface and online service integration like social networking.
To see the Nokia N97 in action you can watch this hands-on video on Engadget. The ability to customize the home screen and have your most important widgets displayed to be viewed at a glance is great. The N97 looks very responsive, which would be a big plus.
