NVIDIA ships OPENGL 3.0 Drivers
NVIDIA Corporation released beta drivers for the new OpenGL 3.0 cross-platform, 3D graphics standard.
The new drivers implement the OpenGL 3.0 API and the GLSL 1.30 shading language for both Windows XP and Windows Vista on selected GeForce and Quadro boards.
With these drivers any developer can now explore the capabilities of the new OpenGL 3.0 specification.

NVIDIA PhysX technology is already used in more than 140 shipping titles for Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.

NVIDIA announces the introduction of a new series of NVIDIA Quadro FX mobile GPUs, featuring an NVIDIA CUDA Parallel Computing Processor.

NVIDIA GeForce Power Pack includes Folding@home and Badaboom
NVIDIA announced new software that uses the processing power of GeForce video cards for other applications than graphics and games. The new GeForce Power Pack includes the Stanford University’s Folding@home distributed-computing, protein-folding client and a trial version of Elemental Technologies' Badaboom video transcoder.
Folding@home is already a huge success on the PS3, now also PCs can leverage their graphics prowness for the good.

AMD introduced today the new HD 4870 X2 and claims the top spot for video cards. Madshrimps compares the new HD 4870 X2 with its direct enemy NVIDIA GTX 280.

NVIDIA announces PhysX Support in Bionic Commando
NVIDIA today announced that CAPCOM’s upcoming Bionic Commando video game will use GPU-accelerated NVIDIA PhysX technology to enhance the game’s debris, smoke, dust, and weapon effects.
Bionic Commando, which will be released by GRIN in early 2009, is one of many titles to take advantage of NVIDIA PhysX technology, interactive entertainment’s most pervasive physics engine.

NVIDIA not quitting Chipset Business
NVIDIA has reacted to a report from Digitimes about the company getting out of the chipset business. Today Digitimes reports that NVIDIA issued a statement saying that they are not stopping to make chipsets.
NIVIDIA says that their motherboard chipset business is healthy and the are planning new chipsets for the AMD and Intel based motherboards.

NVIDIA to get out of Chipset Business?
Digitimes reports that NVIDIA has supposedly decided to stop making chipsets.
Update:
NVIDIA not quitting Chipset Business.
Apparently the nForce chipsets do not get enough demand from motherboard makers.
If NVIDIA is not making the chipsets for the SLI functionality needed on motherboards for their high-end cards needs to be enabled through chipsets made by other manufacturers.

Mythbusters Coming to NVIDIA's NVISION 08
NVISION 08 is coming up at the end of August and NVIDIA is really stacking the deck to get geeks to show up for the show. NVIDIA announced that Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage will appear in a unique presentation at the conference. The pair are best known for their show Mythbusters on Discovery Channel.
Exactly what the pair will be dong at the show is unknown. NVIDIA will only say that the guys will be shooting or blowing something up. Maybe they will loft an AMD graphics card in the air on a rocket powered by Mentos and Diet Coke. Between these guys and Battlestar Galactica hottie Tricia Helfer, I really need to go. NVIDIA if you are reading send me a plane ticket so I can come to the show. -- for purely professional reasons mind you. Read more

Apple ARM and NVIDIA Chips Rumors
This week a rumor about Apple using some new chipsets along the Intel CPUs in MacBooks have triggered more rumors and speculations on who would supply these chips.
One rumor ties NVIDIA GPUs to upcoming Apple MacBooks. NVIDIA also makes with the Tegra chips a mobile processors, which could also link them to future Apple products. More details on the NVIDIA Apple rumors can be found on AppleInsider.

NVIDIA Launches New Graphics Cards
Yesterday I mentioned that NVIDIA had launched new notebook GPUs. NVIDIA also officially announced three new desktop graphics cards -- The 9800 GTX+, 9800 GT, and 9500 GT. The cards cover several different price points with the 9500 GT coming in at under $100.
All three of the GPUs support PhysX processing and CUDA processing; the new cards will also support SLI and 3D stereoscopic technology. I saw NVIDIA's 3D drivers in action at CEs this year and it was fantastic. Read more

NVIDIA Announces 9800M GTX for Notebooks
NVIDIA announced today that its latest high-end GPU for the notebook market called the GeForce 9800M GTX and 9700M GTX is now available. The new 9 series GPUs bring PhysX acceleration to the notebook GPU for the first time.
Features of the 9800M GTX and 9700M GTX include PhysX technology compatibility, 112 processing cores, faster graphics engine, support for SLI, Hybrid SLI support, PureVideo HD, Blu-ray support and support for MXM 3.0 graphics model specification. Notebooks using the new GPUs will be available from Toshiba and several other PC makers. Read more

NVIDIA Launches New Developer Tools
NVIDIA has announced three new developer tools aimed at allowing game developers to more quickly and easily debug games. NVIDIA says that some of the biggest names in video game development use its tools including Crytek, epic Games, and Rockstar.
The new developer tools are PerfHUD, a graphics debugging and performance analysis tool for DirectX 9 and 10 applications. FX Composer 2.5 is an integrated development environment for fast creation of real-time visual effects. The final application is Shader Debugger, which helps debug and optimize shaders written with HLSL, CgFX, and COLLADA FX Cg in both DirectX and OpenGL. Read more

NVIDIA informs about faulty GPUs, takes one-time Charge from $150m to $200m
NVIDIA announced a new financial outlook that includes information about issues with previous generation GPU and MCP products in notebooks.
The issues are big enough that NVIDIA plans to take a one-time charge from $150 million to $200 million to cover anticipated warranty, repair, return, replacement and other costs and expenses.
