OCZ announced the price-breaking OCZ Core SSD series on July 1st. Now NewEgg is shipping the 128GB and 64GB SSDs.

The 128GB OCZ Core sells for $479 after a $40 mail-in rebate on NewEgg.

OCZ Core SSDs Hands-On Review

A few weeks back OCZ announced its new lower cost Core series SSD drives. The Core series drives were significantly cheaper than other offerings on the market with a 128GB SSD going for $479. Laptop Magazine has got hands on the drives and offered up some fast benchmarks in front of a full review.

Laptop found that the read rate for the drive was 112.4Mbps and the drive had a seek time of 1ms. HD Tach gave the drive an average read time of 89.5Mbps. Boot time using the Core SSD was 36.3 seconds, less than a second slower than the much more expensive Samsung SSD. To copy a 5GB file using the 64GB OCZ core series SSD took 3 minutes and 59 seconds. OCZ unveiled today the OCZ Core Series SATA II 2.5" Solid State Drives (SSDs).

OCZ says that the new OCZ Core Series delivers the performance and reliability of the latest SSDs at a 50% lower price per gigabyte than other high speed offerings currently on the market. Read more
