Kodak signs OLED Cross-License Agreement With LG Display

Kodak signs OLED Cross-License Agreement With LG Display Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Eastman Kodak Company, a pioneer in organic light emitting diode technology (OLED), today announced an intellectual property cross-licensing agreement with LG Display Co., Ltd., of Korea.

The license, which is royalty bearing to Kodak, enables LG Display to use Kodak technology, including yield-improving capabilities for Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) modules, in a variety of small to medium size display applications such as mobile phones, portable media players, picture frames, and small TVs. The agreement also enables LG Display to purchase Kodak's patented OLED materials for use in manufacturing displays. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Read more

World's Thinnest AMOLED Display by Samsung Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Samsung SDI shows a 2.2 inch AMOLED display which is only .52mm thin.

AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. 0.52mm is about as thin as a business card. Pretty cool - nearly as cool as the new Sony flexible OLED display.

The ultra-thin 2.2 inch AMOLED display has a QVGA resolution and seems to be very bright. Samsung SDI also showed other AMOLED displays with different resolutions like 400x240px at the SID 2007. Read more

A joint venture between Toshiba and Matsushita said today that they will start selling OLED based TVs in 3 years.

So Sony seems to be ahead of the OLED TV game. But what are we supposed todo with an 11 inch TV? Hold it very close to our eyes to see the HD content? After all Sony is HD and HD is Sony. Sony actually thinks that these small OLED displays find use in advertising or information assistance.
