neodigits Helios X5000 DVD and Network Media Player Review
Our review partner Digital Trends reviews the neodigits Helios X5000 DVD Player with wireless media streamer functionality.
Quote from the review:
"The NeoDigits X5000 DVD player outsmarts the competition by adding media streaming capabilities through either WiFi or Ethernet. That’s right, this DVD player will not only play your favorite DVDs, but it will also wirelessly connect to your home PC to play movies and music through your home theater.
Now this is not really something new in theory, there have been other DVD players that do this (KiSS, Gateway), but the NeoDigits X5000 has some features that differentiate it from the others; audiophile circuitry. The X5000 has a sticker price of just $599.

SlingPlayer for Mac OS X 10.4 Public Beta is Here
Slingmedia offers the SlingPlayer for Mac OS X 10.4 for download.
It is still a public beta. But I guess at this point Apple users take anything. 10 days ago I wrote a piece on the wait for the Mac client software and how impatient Apple users got over the times.
I am using the SlingPlayer on Windows every day to watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Show from here in Germany on a Slingbox I placed at a friends house in San Francisco. I love it.

The Wait for the Slingbox Apple OS X Client Software
Slingmedia announced the Apple OS X client in early January. Now it is October and possibly by the end of October or early November there will be a public beta of the OS X client software.
Update:
SlingPlayer for Mac OS X 10.4 beta is here
Slingbox customer and I4U reader Andy emailed me that the Slingbox packaging clearly states OS X support. The fact that the software is still not available borders on false advertising. I know and you guys, who read tech news each day know it too, that the OS X version of the Slingbox client is not ready yet. A normal customer who walks into Best Buy might not be aware until he opens the box at home that there is no software for his Mac.
Andy got a voicemail from Slingmedia where they apologize that the packaging is already stating OS X support and that the Apple software development got delayed.

Apple OS X Tiger features Spotlight a New Local Search
| Story
by: GearLive.com |
Apple is really gunning for Microsoft as far as the OS market is concerned. Since OS X launched a couple of years ago, they have released major updates three times. Yesterday at the WWDC, they introduced the fourth - Mac OS X Tiger.
Steve Jobs talked about a new search technology called "Spotlight". In a nutshell, using the Spotlight technology, you can search your entire PC for whatever you need in seconds. According to Apple, "Spotlight can find email messages, calendars and contacts along with documents, movies, images — any kind of file — all at once." Think of it as being similar to searching for music in iTunes. More details on Gear Live.
