Oppo Digital DV-981HD Review

Topic:

Oppo Digital DV-981HD Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review MissingRemote has published a review of the Oppo Digital DV-981HD Upscaling DVD Player.

Quote from the review:
"The output of the Oppo is generally nothing short of spectacular, with a recent well mastered DVD one really can sit back and almost forget that this isn't actually high definition, just a good fakery. 1080p native upconversion is a boon to all the influx of new 1080p TV owners that are sure to come as the prices plummet during 2007.
The fact that the player can play just about any optical media (short of the next gen formats) is a major plus for anyone looking to unify their various devices. The only negative is the macroblocking issue. However, this is dependant on the content and even the calibration of the display being used. Most people wouldn't even notice it. "

Review of Low-Cost Oppo OPDV971H HD Up-Converting DVD Player

Topic:

Review of Low-Cost Oppo OPDV971H HD Up-Converting DVD Player Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review DVD Talk reviews the low-cost Oppo OPDV971H DVD player with HD upconverting.

Quote:
"So, what's so special about the Oppo? While previous low-cost players from brands such as Bravo, Liteon, and Momitsu have actively courted the videophile consumer, these units are often plagued by poor build quality, glitchy playback, and (a common Achilles' heel) lousy progressive scan deinterlacing. Oppo Digital has attempted to address these problems in their player with solid components, excellent customer service, and the inclusion of Faroudja DCDi deinterlacing. Faroudja is one of the best deinterlacing solutions available today, and is renowned for its ability to properly assemble progressive frames out of complex film-based, video, and mixed-source signals without ugly combing artifacts or "jaggies". Combine this with excellent scaling quality, a direct-digital DVI connection, and as a special bonus the ability to make the player region-free, and you can see why HDTV owners might have some cause for excitement.
