Happy-Go-Lucky Sally Hawkins gets Oscar Buzz

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Actress Sally Hawkins is relatively unknown in the United
States but an acclaimed role in British director Mike Leigh's new film may find
her on Hollywood's red carpets this awards season, a prospect she calls
"gob-smacking."
The London-born Hawkins, 32, has been gaining Oscar buzz from critics for her
role as Poppy -- a jokey, infectiously optimistic schoolteacher in Leigh's
touching comedy "Happy-Go-Lucky" that is released in the United States on
Friday.

Oscar's new Documentary Rules become hot Topic

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A controversy is brewing over a change to
Oscar's feature documentary rules.
Because of the change -- which required a one-week qualifying run in New York by
August 31 -- one of the year's most buzzed-about documentaries, the Israeli
animated film "Waltz With Bashir," won't be eligible for consideration. A host
of executives and festival veterans are calling on the Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences to revise the rule.

Dark Knight plans Re-release for Oscar Push

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Batman wants an Oscar. To be precise, Warner
Bros. wants a statuette -- or 10 -- for "The Dark Knight."
So the studio plans to re-release its blockbuster Batman sequel in January, the
height of Academy Awards voting season.
"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio
insider explained.
