Asus unveiled the release date and the pricing for their new luxury Asus Eee PC netbook. The Asus Eee PC S101 will start shipping on November 1st for $699.
This high price for a netbook only includes the 16GB SSD drive option and not the also announced 64GB SSD configuration.
The Super Hybrid Engine (SHE), which enhances the S101's energy efficiency, gives you up to five hours of continuous work. Read more

LucasArts and BioWare Announce Star Wars MMO PC Game

LucasArts and BioWare announced the development of a Star Wars MMO game for the PC called Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game is a story driven MMO set in the same timeframe as the fantastic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game.

The game will explore the age thousands of years before Darth Vader when a war between the Jedi and Sith divides the galaxy. Players can take the role of Jedi, Sith, or other classic Star Wars roles. The players will add characters to their cadre along the way as the game progresses that could be friends or betray them depending on the actions of the player. Read more

Dell XPS Baton PC Design Concept rolls up its Screen and Keyboard

Earlier today we reported about a design concept for the "Sony PSP 2" featuring a roll-up display made from flexible OLED. The same designer, Tai Chiem, also created a Dell laptop with roll-up OLED display dubbed Delll XPS Baton PC.
The Dell XPS Baton PC Design Concept looks pretty nice and shows how exciting the future could look for gadgets if we can get flexible OLED displays commercialized. Read more

AbleNet Bluetooth Access Tech for PC

AbleNet has announced some new access technology to allow those with physical limitations to use a computer. The access technology uses Impulse Bluetooth Technology. The products are designed to allow people with limitations to use any muscle surface like the face, jaw, neck, arm, leg and more to control a computer.

AbleNet says the products are particularly aimed at those with ALS, MS, and MDA or paralysis. The device uses an electrode to measure Electromyography (minute muscle contractions) to provide control of computers. Read more

Acer gains on Netbooks, HP keeps global PC Lead

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Taiwan's Acer Inc surged past global champion Hewlett-Packard Co in European personal computer sales in the third quarter, in the clearest sign of the move toward cheap, small mini-notebook computers, research firm Gartner Inc said on Tuesday.
Worldwide PC shipments rose 15 percent in the quarter, with HP in the lead, followed by Dell Inc.

Gartner Says World Wide PC Market Grew

Gartner has released its latest report on the state of the worldwide PC industry. Despite the poor economy in many countries, the PC market has continued to grow by 15% thanks to the low cost and very popular netbook.

The worldwide PC market shipped 80.6 million units in Q3 2008. HP kept its lock on the top spot on the PC sellers list followed by Dell, then Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, and others. PC makers in the US broke down like this. Dell maintained its top spot, HP was second, Apple held third followed by Acer and Toshiba. Read more

Lenovo Introduces New Consumer Desktop PC

Lenovo announced a new desktop computer today called the H210. The system sits in Lenovo's consumer line and starts at only $399. The chassis is glossy black for good looks and it supports BrightVision technology with compatible displays. The machine uses an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and can be had with up to 640GB of storage space and 4GB of RAM. Lenovo spaced the front USB ports two inches apart so they aren’t blocked by wide USB drives. The system also includes Lenovo Rescue system to recover data and software after a crash. Read more

Averatec Unveils 18.4-inch All-In-One PC

Averatec launched its All-In-One line with a 22-inch model in July. Averatec has added a smaller model to the line that uses an 18.4-inch LCD. The system uses the Intel Atom processor N270 typically found in netbook systems.

The system runs Windows XP Home and has 1GB of Ram with 160GB of storage. Wi-Fi is built-in and the system is optimized for daily computer use like email and web surfing. The computer retails for $549.99 and will be available soon. Read more

Acer Unveils PC with Phenom X3 and a 24-inch LCD

Acer has unveiled a new desktop PC that uses its recently announced Phenom X3 CPU. The Acer Aspire X3200 desktop can be outfitted with the Phenom X3 CPU, Blu-ray, NVIDIA graphics and more. The system is compact at 10.4" H x 4" W x 14.4" L. Other features include 640GB HDD and 4GB of RAM. Blu-ray is included for $679.99.

Acer also announced a new P244W 24-inch LCD with a low retail price of $339. The display supports a native and maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is odd for a 24-inch LCD. The typical native and max resolution for a 24-inch LCD is 1920 x 1200. Read more

Nero and TiVo have teamed up to offer PC users TiVo functionality directly on the computer. The product is called Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC. Users can pause, rewind, and watch live TV right on the computer.

The software also allows the programs to be exported to the iPod PSP, or DVD. TiVo features included in the software are WishList searches, Season Pass recording, TiVo KidZone and TiVo Suggestions. The software is compatible with Windows Vista or XP and comes with a TiVo PC remote, TV tuner card, and an IR Blaster to create wireless IR connection between the cable or satellite box and the PC. Pinnacle has launched its latest PCTV tuner called the PCTV nanoStick. The small USB TV tuner allows Mac and PC users to watch digital TV on their computers. The device allows users to pause, rewind, and record programs.
