Worldwide PC shipments rose 15 percent in the quarter, with HP in the lead, followed by Dell Inc.

Despite the poor economy in many countries, the PC market has continued to grow by 15% thanks to the low cost and very popular netbook.

The worldwide PC market shipped 80.6 million units in Q3 2008. HP kept its lock on the top spot on the PC sellers list followed by Dell, then Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, and others. PC makers in the US broke down like this. Dell maintained its top spot, HP was second, Apple held third followed by Acer and Toshiba. Read more

The system sits in Lenovo's consumer line and starts at only $399. The chassis is glossy black for good looks and it supports BrightVision technology with compatible displays. The machine uses an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and can be had with up to 640GB of storage space and 4GB of RAM. Lenovo spaced the front USB ports two inches apart so they aren’t blocked by wide USB drives. Averatec has added a smaller model to the line that uses an 18.4-inch LCD. The system uses the Intel Atom processor N270 typically found in netbook systems.

The system runs Windows XP Home and has 1GB of Ram with 160GB of storage. Wi-Fi is built-in and the system is optimized for daily computer use like email and web surfing. The computer retails for $549.99 and will be available soon. Read more

Other features include 640GB HDD and 4GB of RAM. Blu-ray is included for $679.99.

Acer also announced a new P244W 24-inch LCD with a low retail price of $339. The display supports a native and maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is odd for a 24-inch LCD. The typical native and max resolution for a 24-inch LCD is 1920 x 1200. Read more
