Ainol V9000 'Megatron' PMP Has 4.8'' Screen

There's an unseen downside to writing about technology for a living. Every week brings a slew of rumors and official info on hot new devices coming down the pipe. I fall in love with a new gadget about every eight hours, more often during the Christmas season. The sheer amount of awesome deals on badass gizmos is enough to drive a man to bankruptcy. Usually I'm able to clamp down on my techno-lust, but not this time. If and when Ainol's new V9000 PMP hits the United States, I doubt I'll be able to stop myself from buying one. This sweet new Chinese PMP is nicknamed the 'Megatron', and for good reason. It has a solid, industrial-looking design that frames its enormous 4.8" screen nicely. The Megatron can render 1080p video, and also features an HDMI port. It's got 16 GB of internal storage, a DM Tuner, and a 2450 mAH battery.

Teclast Android PMP Coming?

We all like to think we're not susceptible to marketing but, deep down, we all have something that makes the "buy, buy, BUY!" section of our brain light up like a Christmas tree left perilously close to a fireplace. For me, that something is Android. While the guys at Engadget may not be too excited about the new Android-powered Teclast PMP, I am.

The existence of the T58 Android PMP was alleged by imp3.net. They say it contains an RK2808 chipset with a dual-core ARM9 RISC processor. It has a 1280 x 720 touchscreen, WiFi capability, and a GPS. The T58 is said to support H.264, RMVB, MPEG-4, AVS, and WMV9 file types. That's all we know for now. So far I'd say it sounds...kinda neat?

Archos announced this week their new 6th generation of portable media players. The new Archos 5, 5g and 7 series are awesome portable machines that offer Wi-fi or even 3G connectivity (5g). We picked the new Archos 5 with the gigantic 250GB hard-drive as one of our Top 100 Holiday Gift Tips of 2008. Why? Show me another portable media player with 250GB storage. Apple is not offering an iPod with that kind of capacity, Sandisk and Microsoft also fail to offer 250GB in a player. Samsung Unveils S3 Slim PMP

Samsung rolled out a new PMP that is slated for a June launch. The S3 is available in 4GB or 8GB capacities and comes in green, red, black, blue and white colors. The battery promises 25 hours of music and 4 hours of video.

The S3 has a 1.8-inch 240 x 320 resolution display and can store up to 25 hours of audio or 4 hours of video. Supported audio formats include MP3 and WMA with supported video file format of MPEG4. Pricing information hasn’t been announced at this time. Read more

Cowon unveils a special edition of its Cowon N3 PMP with a wooden canvas.

Cowon is not jumping on the green bamboo gadget movement, rather they want to dress up the N3 to radiate luxury. The wood application has the Italian olive style.

Apparently Korean Viliv already introduced the X70 Vant PMP at CES 2008. We somehow did not see that announcement back in January. Viliv is getting closer to releasing the X70 Vant in Korea as they have announced an advertising campaign.

Archos to integrate 3G Connectivity in PMPs

Archos signed an agreement with French carrier SFR to integrate 3G connectivity into upcoming portable media players.

The 3G enabled Archos PMPs are supposed to be available some time this year.

Details about the collaboration between Archos and SFR are not available; the companies only issued a statement about the collaboration on 3G enabled media devices. Read more

iRiver M20 GPS PMP revealed

iRiver unveiled the iRiver M20 Navigation PMP on their special CES 2008 'reveal a gadget' a day site.

The iRiver M20 seems to replace the iRiver NV navigation device iRiver introduced last Summer.

Korean company UPOP has a giant sized PMP that looks more like a UMPC than a traditional PMP. The device has a 4.8-inch TFT screen and can be had with 30GB, 80GB, or 160GB HDD. Expansion via SD cards is possible as well.

The device runs windows CE 5.0 Pro and is compatible with MP3, WMA, MP4, ACC, AC3, Ogg and WAV. The player will also do video with AVI, WMV, MPG, DAT, and VOB compatibility. Read more
