Sony PS3 80GB Core in Stores early Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Sony announced the new 80GB PS3 Core with the new low $399 price at the E3 2008. The 40GB PS3 replacement console was not due until September.
Now reports appear that some retailers already offer the 80GB PS3 for $399.
I guess Sony does not care about an earlier release as the will be just filling the channel and replace the 40GB PS3 as needed. Read more

We have now got the retail box image and more details about the new PS3 console offering.

Sony positions the new 80GB PS3 as the only PS3 console version moving forward. Like the 40GB PS3, the new 80GB version will have no PS2 backward compatibility. Read more

The 80GB Sony PS3 will replace the 40GB PS3 at that price point. So Sony follows Microsoft in offering more storage for the same price for their consoles. Read more
