iPhone 4G Will Pack RFID Reader?
RFID technology has come a long way in the past few years. Chips are now individually very cheap, and thousands of uses for them have been devised by corporations and governments. Now it seems that Apple is looking to help make RFIDs something consumers make use of every day by adding a reader into the new iPhone. AppleInsider says that a site focusing on Near Field Communications has found evidence that Apple has built new iPhone prototypes that pack an RFID reader.
An iPhone-mounted RFID reader could have a wide variety of uses. It could allow “touchless” payments at vending machines, stores and toll booths, as well as enable a variety of AR technologies. RFID chips can also act as barcodes, which would make browsing for deals and 'at a glance' window shopping much easier for people with iPhones. Since many products and services are already embedded with RFID chips, we could see this functionality appear in the very near future.

A Backpack for Your iMac
The coolest gadgets aren't necessarily the ones that pack the flashiest technology or come with the most apps. To be truly great, all a gadget has to do is innovate in an area that no one thought needed any innovation. Like, for example, the stem of an LCD monitor.
That's why the BackPack, available right now from the Apple Store, is a truly great gadget. It is an incredibly simple idea that serves a useful purpose; adding storage space to your Mac. You just clip the BackPack to the stem of your monitor and, voila, instant storage space without taking up desk space!

Apple 'Active Packaging': Pre-loaded iPhones?
So Apple has, rather understandably, started looking into the idea of creating an active packaging' system for their iPods and iPhones. This system would allow Apple to charge their products in store, as well as wirelessly update them with display software, firmware, and 'Application customizations'.
I think that, once they get their active packaging system set up we'll see Apple start to offer phones pre-loaded with applications. You'll be able to pick your app suite online and purchase your phone powered-up and filled with apps. That's a really good business move on Apple's part. A lot of people are going to like the idea of walking out the door with a usable smartphone.
