Pentax K20D DSLR Gets Price Reduction

Pentax announced price reductions on some of its cameras today including one of its most popular DSLR cameras. The Pentax K20D DSLR camera body has been reduced to $999.95 and features 14.6-megapixel resolution. Other features of the K20D include weather-resistant design, three-step dust removal system, and the PRIME image processor. Shake reduction is also built into the camera.

Pentax also cut the price of its Optio W60 point-and-shoot digital camera to $299.95. The W60 is a lightweight camera that is fully waterproof and has 10MP resolution along with a 5x zoom lens. The camera can shoot pictures in up to 13 feet of water for over two hours and can shoot at temperatures under freezing. Read more

Pentax Optio E60 Budget Camera Introduced

Pentax has introduced a new digital camera with lots of megapixels at a low price. The Pentax Optio E60 has 10.1-megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens. The E60 lens has a wide angle of view of 32mm to 96mm in 35mm format.

Other features of the camera include Auto Picture, Face Recognition, High Sensitivity Digital Shake Reduction, and a Green mode that sets exposure, sensitivity and other features with the touch of one button. Pentax Launches Optio V20 Camera

Pentax announced its latest point-and-shoot camera called the Optio V20 yesterday. The camera uses a compact design and features a 5x zoom lens. The image sensor is 8MP and the camera takes advantage of a large 3-inch LCD screen.

Portrait optimization features are built in as well. Face recognition detects and focuses on faces automatically and sets correct exposure. Smile Capture detects when the subject smiles and releases the shutter automatically. Read more

Pentax Announces New Optio M50, S12, E50 and A40 Cameras

Pentax Imaging Company announced four new digital cameras in its Optio line. The Optio M50 has a 5x optical zoom and is very thin and light. Features of the camera include Smile Capture function that releases the shutter automatically when the subject smiles. The M50 will ship in March for $229.95.

The Optio S12 is the smallest 12MP digital camera in its class according to Pentax. The camera will be available in April for $279.95 and will come in sliver or black. The Optio E50 runs off AA batteries and will be available in March for $149.95. Read more

Pentax Introduces Optia A40 and Optio V10 Digital Cameras

Pentax has launched a couple new digital cameras called the Optio A40 and the Optio V10. The Optio A40 is a 12-megapixel camera that has three types of shake reduction built-in. The three modes are mechanical, digital and move with each version helping to deliver sharp, blur-free shots.

Pentax is announcing a couple new digital cameras today called the Optio S10 and the Optio Z10. The Z10 has a 7x optical zoom lens, which is the highest optical zoom among Pentax compact digital cameras.

The Z10 has 8 megapixels and features face detection. The lens uses refraction technology so it never sticks out when zooming. Digital shake reduction is also built into the camera allows for ISO of up to 3200. Read more

The Pentax board overturned Fumio Urano as president and appointed Senior Executive Officer Takashi Watanuki as his successor.

The new Pentax management canceled the merger with the optical equipment maker Hoya Corp.,.

The PMA 2007 pre-announcements are really heating up. Pentax starts off with two easy going announcements of the new Pentax Optio A30 and W30. Canon already hit harder with the TX1, EOS 1D Mark III and the SD1000.

The Pentax Optio A30 highlights are the 10MP resolution and the high 3200 ISO.
Other features of the Pentax A30 include 2.5 inch screen, Face Recognition AF & AE, electronic shake reduction and SDHC memory card support.

Not only does this new Pentax have a 10.2-megapixel CCD, it also has built-in Shake Reduction and a cleaning system to keep dust off the imaging device (and your prints). It’s also built to take a bit of beating since it’s weather resistant and has tight seals to keep dust out of the body. Not only that, it costs less than $1,000 with a lens, a very reasonable price but above the Sony alpha which has similar features (10MP CCD, image stabilization) but not nearly as rugged a body. Pentax Unveils the Waterproof Optio W20 Camera

It's always fun to figure out what those one-letter prefixes that companies always attach to their product model numbers mean. In the case of Pentax, the "W" in their cameras seems to stand for "waterproof". The company seems to have found a niche in the underwater camera market, and they relish in it (as you can see in their cleverly Photoshopped promotional picture).

With 7 megapixels and a 4x digital zoom, you'll be able to take those seemingly out-of-reach underwater pictures with good clarity, provided you're only 1.5 meters underwater and don't stay there for more than 30 minutes. Read more
