Imation and Philips Settle Legal Disputes
Imation and Philips have been battling each other in court over allegations of patent infringement. The two firms have been fighting a series of legal battles in multiple jurisdictions over cross-licensing and patent infringement related to optical media.
The two companies announced today that a settlement has been reached. Most of the settlement is confidential and the only information about the settlement is that neither party has had to admit wrongdoing. Read more

Philips Offers New Svelte Universal Remote
A universal remote is a great thing. Rather than having a remote for the TV, one for your Amp, one for your Blu-ray, one for your Xbox, and one for your cable box, you simply have one remote. The new Philips remote is called the SRT9320 and is mixes a touchscreen with normal keys.

Formula One Night Race in Singapore is light up by Philips
Philips today announced that its lighting projectors have been selected by Valerio Maioli S.p.A., the Italian consultant company appointed by Singapore GP Pte Ltd., to light up the first ever Formula One night race on September 28th in Singapore.
The Philips projectors were selected because its lighting achieves near-daylight conditions at night, providing a safe environment for drivers on the race track, even at speeds of more than 300km/h (~186mph).

Philips first to light Office Building entirely with LEDs
Philips Electronics today announced that it will light the world’s first office entirely with LED solutions.
The office, owned by Generali and located at 100 Champs-Elysées Avenue, Paris is the first office building that only has LED lights.
The project came together with architect Anthony Béchu who had been commissioned by Generali to design "an innovative window in the world of LEDs".

Philips Introduces 52-inch 3D Display
Philips has introduced a new 52-inch 3D display that is designed for digital signage, pro-Av and entertainment applications. The display uses Philips’ WOWvx technology to allow 3D viewing without the need for glasses.
The 52-inch auto-stereoscopic display is based on a full 1080p HD panel with 700 cd/m2 of brightness, 2000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 8 ms. Philips says that the display will be available in Q4 2008. Pricing is not available at this time. Read more

Philips to quit Plasma TVs?
Digitimes reports that Philips is likely to completely get out of the PDP TV market in 2009.
Funai, who operates the Philips TV brand, says that the company and Philips have no plans to develop new PDP TVs from the end of 2008, indicating that Philips will officially quit Plasma TV operations in 2009.

Syntax-Brillian and LG.Philips Sign LCD Pact
Syntax-Brillian and LG.Philips announced today that the two companies have signed a LCD panel supply agreement. Under the terms of this agreement LG.Philips agrees to supply Syntax-Brillian with a minimum of 750,000 LCD panels during 2008.
The panels will be sized for 32-inch, 37-inch, 42-inch, 42-inch full HD, and 47-inch Full HD. Syntax-Brillian also has an option to secure more panels as the market demands. This sort of agreement is becoming common with the huge growth of LCD TVs pushed in part by the digital conversion coming in 2009. Read more

LG.Philips LCD shows highest resolution flexible e-Paper at CES 2008
LG.Philips LCD will debut the world’s highest resolution 14.3-inch flexible color e-paper at the CES 2008.
The 14.3-inch E-paper display, which is equivalent in size to an A4 sheet of paper has a resolution of 1,280x800px and can display 16.7m colors. These e-paper displays are extremely energy efficient, only using power when the image changes. Additionally, the displays are extremely thin, at less than 300 micrometers.

LG Philips LCD will reveal a 52-inch Multi-touch Screen, 42-inch Transflective LCD, 47-inch Double Sided LCD and Multi-vision Displays at the CES 2008.
These new panels are aimed at commercial use for advertising displays and similar applications.

LG.Philips narrow Bezel LCD Screen for Mobile Phones
LG.Philips LCD develops a-Si TFT-LCD Mobile Phone Panel with the world’s thinnest border at only 1mm.
The borders on the left and right sides of this 2.4-inch QVGA-resolution (240x320px) LCD panel measure just 1 mm each. This is about 50% thinner than most a-Si TFT-LCD panels currently produced, which generally have borders measuring closer to 2 mm.
The display is based on LG.Philips LCD’s Narrow Bezel Technology, combining Gate in Panel technology (GIP), which integrates the driver IC onto the LCD panel, and new process and material technologies designed to ensure that narrow-border panels are equal in quality and reliability to their wider counterparts.

Philips Introduces SRM7500 Windows Vista Media Center Remote
Philips rolled out a new remote control at CEDIA this week called the SRM7500. This remote was designed for Windows Vista powered media center computers. The remote can control Vista’s media center functionality along with five other devices.
The remote also supports basic Windows SideShow features that allow users to browse and play music, pictures and programming guides on the remotes LCD screen. Read more

Philips to Launch Aurea TVs at IFA 2007
Philips announced today that they will be launching their new Aurea HDTVs as IFA2007. Aurea is Philips’ update to their Ambilight technology, which worked pretty well. We reviewed a 50” Ambilight Plasma HDTV back in March and found it to work well.
The Aurea HDTVs will use the new LED-based Ambilight system as well as integrating discrete speakers and the Perfect Pixel HD Engine. Aurea TVs will be available in Europe next month. Read more
