Pioneer shows 9mm thin KURO Plasma TV and the absolute Black
Pioneer will show the future of flat panel TVs at the CES 2008 show floor. Under the code name “Project KURO” Pioneer shows a 9mm thin Plasma TV concept and a new level of contrast ratio that is supposed to challenge that quality measure of flat panel TVs. Pioneer says to be able to display absolute black with no measurable amounts of light emitting.
For more than a year, Project KURO has been a brand mantra within Pioneer that represents our commitment to deliver the most passionate and emotional entertainment experience possible,” said Russ Johnston, executive vice president of marketing and product planning for the Home Entertainment and Business Solutions Group at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “The KURO technology concepts demonstrate how we are continuing to challenge the industry and stay above the commoditized flat panel television market – by literally ending the conversation about contrast ratio, a debate that has been in existence since television was first introduced, and creating a flat panel display so thin it becomes a canvas for entertainment.”

Pantech compares the shape of the IM-U200 with that of an space ship, and they are not that wrong with that. The clamshell phone, does not flip open as others, the cover swivels to the side.
The feature set itself is not that impressive of the IM-U200. The design is very futuristic though. The keypad for instance looks like a membrane of sorts.

I am sure that there is a bunch of happy media center PC users out there that have been itching to add a Blu-ray drive to their computers. The catch has always been the high price of the drives that frequently cost near $1000.

Sony BRAVIA Theatre RHT-G800 Versus Pioneer B-07
Sony introduced the BRAVIA Theatre RHT-G800 TV stand (photo below) with integrated 5.1 surround speakers last week at the Sony Media Experience. Researching the new Plasma TVs Pioneer announced today in Japan, I stumbled over the Pioneer B-07 AV rack (photo )that also features integrated speakers as well as a rather similar design.
A closer look reveals that the Pioneer B-07 only incorporates the front speakers into the TV-stand. You need the HTP-07 surround sound system in addition to achieve 5.1 surround sound.
Sony's TV-Stand has all speakers and the amplifier inside the rack.

Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 Review
HDGuru published what is most likely the first review of the Pioneer Blu-ray player BDP-HD1. HDGuru actually finds many similarities between the Sony BDP-S1 and the Pioneer BDP-HD1, which leads to the conclusion that they are both made by Pioneer.
Quote from the review:
"Commencing set-up made clear that there were more similarities between the BDP-HD1 and Sony’s BDP-S1 than just the rear panel, as the two share identical on-screen instruction graphics, looks, placement and some fonts. The open drawer revealed the two players use the same disc drive as well, leading me to ask a Pioneer representative who builds its player.
I was assured that Pioneer builds its player, including the drive, which makes it clear that Pioneer also builds Sony’s player.
