Panasonic says that based on the US average daily TV intake of 6.5 hours, the Panasonic 1080p plasma TVs could, on average, last 42 years. The Panasonic's 1080p line last significantly longer than its 720p VIERA sets, which are rated for 60,000 hours before half brightness. Read more

LG PG60 frameless Plasma HDTV

Topic:

LG PG60 frameless Plasma HDTV Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review LG announces at the CES 2008 the PG60, single-layer (frameless) plasma TV.

Frameless is a bit misleading. What it actually means is that the glass layer is going across the whole TV. Definitely a nice design, but under the glass is still a visible frame. It would be really cool if the video image would be displayed framelessly. I guess we still have to wait a couple of CES shows for that to happen. Read more

50-inch Plasma HDTV Buyer's Guide

Topic:

50-inch Plasma HDTV Buyer's Guide Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

One of the best ways to make watching TV, movies, and sports more fun and entertaining is with a nice big screen HDTV. With prices on plasma HDTVs coming down it is getting easier to find affordable larger screen sizes in the area of 50-inches and up.

If you wonder what the differences between plasma and LCD HDTVs are, here is a quick rundown. Plasma HDTVS typically offer better contrast and can render deeper blacks, leading to a better image quality. Plasmas also tend to have better response times than LCD HDTVs, which means that you don’t see blurring of on screen images during fast action. The drawback of a plasma HDTV is that they tend to put out more heat than a LCD panel and are susceptible to image burn in from static images such as the HUD when playing video games or the news ticker on news stations.

LCD HDTVs benefit from no real issue with static image burn in, they run cooler than plasma HDTVs, perform better than plasma HDTVs at high altitude, and often offer brighter image over plasmas. The LCD HDTV also offers a much longer lifespan than your typical plasma HDTV. A typical plasma HDTV has a lifespan of around 30,000 hours equating to about 9 years of use at 8 hours per day. Your typical LCD HDTV has a lifespan of about 60,000 hours. That said, most of us would never worry about lifespan, even at 30,000 hours most users will be looking to upgrade well before the 30,000-hour lifespan is up. Read more
