I4U Review Round-up: Ugobe Pleo, Panasonic DMC-L10, Asus EN9800GX2 Top Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Last week we reviewed everything from a robot dino, over a SLR camera to an overclocked graphics card.

Shane's verdict on the Ugobe Pleo dino robot is very positive: "If you are looking for a way to get out of getting your kids a dog or cat, you might want to take a look at the Pleo. Pleo offers a very similar interactive experience for kids short of following them around, playing fetch and pooping on the rug."

UGOBE Pleo Robotic Dinosaur Review

Topic:

UGOBE Pleo Robotic Dinosaur Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Today we are reviewing a Pleo robot dinosaur from UGOBE. This robot is packed with sensors and joints to allow it to be aware of its environment and move like a real dinosaur.

The idea is that rather than being a static toy like a stuffed animal the Pleo will interact with its people and learn and evolve as it is played with. The Pleo pulls this all off nicely as well. Read more

Ugobe Pleo Robot Dino available for Pre-Order

Topic:

Ugobe Pleo Robot Dino available for Pre-Order Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review There where many delays, but finally Ugobe announces that the Pleo is available for pre-order now.

Pleo has it what it takes to become a major toy. Pleo is modeled after a one-week old Camarasaurus (or long neck) dinosaur, the best-known Jurassic sauropod found in North America.
Like all UGOBE Life Forms, Pleo will evolve through life stages and develop a unique personality based on interaction with his owner.

You can pre-order Pleo for $349, which is quite some money for a toy. The other bad news is that you have to wait until October to receive a Pleo. Read more

New Intimate Ugobe Pleo Video

Topic:

New Intimate Ugobe Pleo Video Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Robert Oschler from Robotsrule visited the Ugobe Headquarters and published a new video of the cute blue eyed baby dino Pleo. The little bugger gets cuter, every time I see him.

Ugobe delayed the release of Pleo in February to Summer. I already wrote back then that a Summer release is not a good idea for a toy like this. I figure Ugobe will realize this and get baby dinosaur out in time for the Holiday shopping season. To pass the time, watch the video below; it is heart warming.

Quote from the report:
"Even with a bunch of wires hanging from his baby dino tummy, he was excruciatingly cute. The battery pack, which was still external since Pleo is not finished yet, did not diminish Pleo’s cuddliness at all. Instead it looked like a child’s blanket being dragged behind by a baby taking his first uncertain steps. Read more

Ugobe Pleo available for Pre-Order [Update]

Topic:

Ugobe Pleo available for Pre-Order [Update] Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Last thing we heard from Ugobe, was that their baby dino robot Pleo is delayed until Summer. Today I received an email from Trossen Robotics saying that they started to take pre-orders for Pleo.

Update: Just received another email from Trossen, that they actually jumped the gun and Ugobe did not authorize the pre-order start for the Pleo. I already was suspicious, why Trossen Robotics would be able to offer it and no other retailer.

Ugobe Delays PLEO Again

Topic:

Ugobe Delays PLEO Again Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Two days ago, we reported that Ugobe will announce pre-order details for their dino baby robot tomorrow. Now apparently they changed plans and sent out an email yesterday announcing that PLEO is delayed until Summer.

If I hear Summer it translates immediately into next holiday shopping season. No toy like that should be released in Summer. You need the TMX Elmo effect or forget about it. Mattel introduced TMX Elmo end of September 2006.

The reasons for the delay are improvements that Ugobe learned from beta testing the PLEO with consumers. Sound is getting improved; another sensor is added under the chin and lots of tiny cosmetic things are supposed to be tweaked.

Wild prediction: PLEO will evolve into Elmo, when Mattel is buying Ugobe and will release Tickle Me Life-form Elmo (T.M.L. Elmo) this holiday season.

Ugobe Pleo - Alive Dino Toy Robot

Topic:

Ugobe Pleo - Alive Dino Toy Robot Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Ugobe introduced At the DEMO 06 their first designer life form Pleo (Photo shows Pleo in his regeneration bed).

Pleo is a 1-week-old camarasaurus sauropod (long neck dinosaur). Ugobe's patented robotic motion platform enables Pleo to move in a fluid, lifelike way, while behaving completely autonomously. Pleo features nearly 40 sensors, including infrared and stereophonic sound.
Pleo can convey emotions through motion and sound and is aware of himself and his surroundings. On top of that the little artificial toy creature evolves in behavior over time.
Pleo's simulated emotions include: joy, aggression, sorrow, and fear. He can also yawn, sigh, sniff, sniffle, snore, cough, hiccup, and sneeze - I definitely want to see this dino sneeze.
One open question remains, Will Pleo grow-up to be a 23 feet tall camarasaurus sauropod? Read more
