IAA 2005: Hybrid Porsche Cayenne Coming
Porsche said on the IAA 2005 that they plan a Hybrid Porsche Cayenne.
Do not expect a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid SUV anytime soon at your personal Porsche dealer. Around 2010 it might be available.
The German Car makers are very late to the hybrid technology. Japanese car makers are miles ahead. VW announced together with their Audi and Porsche units hybrid technology push. Apparently Audi will already show a hybrid of the new Audi Q7 at the IAA, which should hit the roads in 2008.
I am all for alternative engine technologies. The car industry is way to focused on horse power. The current fuel prices help to drive the need for alternative energy.

IAA 2005: Rinspeed Indy Based on Porsche 997 Carrera S
Rinspeed already brought us swimming cars and cars that can feel. For this years IAA 2005 in Frankfurt they just go for a very classy Porsche Carrera tuning called simply the Indy.
Swiss Tuning Company Rinspeed pays tribute to the Indianapolis race circuit with the Rinspeed Indy. The Indy is a repainted Porsche 997 in the extraordinary color white metallic.
The four way adjustable coil-over suspension with individual height and stiffness settings lower the Rinspeed Indy by 35mm (1.4"). The front, side and rear skirts are also especially designed for the Indy. Rinspeed also added an enhanced brake system.
The Indy is just very very pretty. I am sure it is damn fast too.

Eliica Electric Car accelerates faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo
Professor Hiroshi Shimizu, of Japan's Keio University developed a 8 wheel electric car that accelerates faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo.
The 600kW Electric muscle car makes the 0-100km/h in four seconds and a 0-160km/h in seven seconds. Proven top speed is 370km/h. The Eliica (Electric Lithium-Ion battery Car) looks a bit like the old Citroen DS that Fantomas used in those old french movies.

Porsche Goes Soap Box Racing
QuenteCafe reports about Extreme Gravity Racing, which is a downhill race for vehicles with no engines to compete in (fancy name for Soap box racing).
Major manufacturers such as Porsche, Volvo, Mazda, Bentley, Nissan and General Motors are involved in this competition. This is an interesting competition because it allows competitors to fully focus on design rather than their performance engines. My guess is that there is a weight restriction on the vehicles. More details and photos on Gizmo.com.au.
Well I still prefer a Porsche with a motor, like the Porsche Carrera GT.
