Soundmatters foxL MB Portable Sound System Introduced
Soundmatters has announced a new portable audiophile quality sound system called the foxL. The system is tiny measuring in at 5.6" x 2.2" x 1.4" and provides 80Hz - 20 kHz full range output and real bass.
Soundmatters says that the device uses newly designed and update components including a pair of 1" Linear Magnetic Drive Twoofers tuned to 100Hz. The device also uses the Soundmatters patented FlatMagic bass radiator. Read more

Addonics Enclosure Supports RAID in Portable Package
Addonics has announced a new portable storage enclosure that supports dual SATA HDDs in RAID configuration. The enclosure supports 2.5-inch SATA HDDs 9 to 9.5mm in height. The device also supports up to four compact flash cards when used with the SATA-CF adapter from Addonics.
The drive enclosure comes with DriveClone software that can clone and backup the contents of your PC drive. The enclosure supports one button back up and connects to the PC via USB and eSATA. RAID levels supported include 0, 1, JBOD, BIG, SAFE50, SAFE33, and GUI mode. Read more

CEA Talking Standards for Portable Devices
The Consumer electronics Association has announced that a discussion group has been formed to consider establishing an industry standard for portable and handheld devices. The standard would be for devices like MP3 players, GPS devices, video display, and cameras.
The CEA says that a standard for these types of devices could make it easier for consumers to connect the devices with home audio and video systems, in-car audio video and navigation systems. The CEA says that it already operates nine standards formulating groups covering a broad spectrum of CE products. Read more

LG XD1 stylish portable hard-drives unveiled
LG unveils the XD1 line of portable hard-drives.
The LG XD1 devices are based on 2.5 inch drives with a SATA II interface. The USB 2.0 E-SATA port has transfer speeds of up to 480mbps.
LG will offer the XD1 in capacities of 120, 160, 250, and 320GB.

Duke Nukem Coming to Portable Game System
Many hardcore PC gamers cut their teeth on Duke Nukem, and have been waiting years for the next installment of the beloved franchise. Apogee Software announced today that it is looking to re-establish itself and is going to bring Duke Nukem to a portable console system.
A Duke Nukem Trilogy will come to a portable game system that will include three episodes: Critical Mass, Chain Reaction, and Proving Grounds. Even if it’s not coming to the PC, it’s good to see Duke Nukem back with new games. Read more

Samsung Adds to TruDirect Portable DVD Writer Line
Samsung has added to its TruDirect line with the addition of a new portable DVD writer that also provides DVD title creation. The new drive is called the TruDirect SE-T084M. the drive weighs less than one pound and works without a power cord.
The drive allows users to connect a digital video camera to the PC and press play on the camera. A TruDirect icon will pop up allowing the press of a record button and the TruDirect SE-T084M does the rest. Samsung says that the drive can create a DVD of 4.1GB in only 30 minutes. Supported formats include 8X DVD+R and DVD-R writing, 6X DVD+R and -R Dual Layer writing, and 5X DVD-RAM writing. The drive will be available in July 2008 for $149. The image here is via Krunker. Samsung P400 Projector is Small and Portable
Samsung announced its latest portable projector called the P400 Pocket Images aimed at the business user. The projector is small, but if you plan to carry it in your pocket, they better be big pockets—it measures 5” W x 3.7” D x 2” H and weighs 1.9 pounds.
The P400 uses LEDs rather than a projector lamp giving a lifespan of 30,000 hours. The resolution is 800 x 600 and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. By using LEDs the projector gives up brightness with only 150 lumens. It can project an image of 30” to 40” in a well lit office though. Inputs include RGB, composite, S-Video, and audio in. Microsoft Announces Embedded OS for Portable Navigation Devices
Microsoft announced today that it has developed an embedded operating system optimized specifically for portable navigation devices (PND). The OS is called Windows Embedded NavReady 2009. Key features for the OS include Live Search, Bluetooth, MSN Direct, and Windows SideShow functionality.
The OS is based on Windows Embedded CE and Microsoft says the OS can help manufacturers simplify the development, user experience and maintenance of their PNDs. Microsoft says with the addition of Windows Embedded NavReady 2009 now has two category specific OS’. Windows Embedded POSReady is set to ship in 2009. Read more

AN-Mini Lightweight & Portable Sound System
Anchor Audio introduced a new portable sound system that is lightweight and intended for use in the classroom, board room and at conferences. The system is called the AN-Mini and weighs less than 2.5 pounds. Despite the small size the system can produce 109dB of sound, which the maker claims is enough to provide clear speech to a room with 100 people.
The small system is available in translucent colors including blue, red, yellow and clear. Power for the AN-Mini can come from rechargeable batteries, standard batteries or ACV power. If rechargeable batteries are used they can be recharged without removing them from the unit. Read more

Panasonic unveiled its next generation line of portable LCD projectors this week called the LB80 Series. The line is designed for small and medium businesses and the line includes the PT-LB80NTU, PT-LB80U, PT-LB75NTU, PT-LB75U designed to be highly portable along with the PT-LW80NTU widescreen version.
The PT-LB80NTU, PT-LB75NTU and PT-LW80NTU feature built-in wireless technology allowing them to connect wirelessly to multiple computers. The PT-LW80NTU retails for $3,499, the PT-LB80NTU retails for $3299, the PT-LB80U retails for $2999, the PT-LB75NTU retails for $2999, and the PT-LB75U retails for $1999. Read more

Verbatim Announces 500GB Portable HDD
Verbatim announced this week that it was adding a 500GB version is its 2.5-inch SmartDisk portable hard drive to the lineup. According to Verbatim this is the world’s first 500GB portable hard drive featuring a 9.5mm Z-height drive.
The drive is about the size of a PDA and joins the SmartDisk like that already has capacities of 120GB to 320GB available. The drive promises a weight of under 6 ounces and measures 3.38” x 5.38” x 0.63” and will be available with either a USB interface or with a USB/Firewire interface. Read more
