Toshiba Slim Projector with Closed Captioning Announced
Toshiba announced a new projector today called the TLP-X100U that is only 4-pounds and uses 3LCD technology. The projector is under 3-inches high and offers a bright image. The entire projector is about the size of a hardback novel.
The device is compatible with closed captioning from DVD or TV and has a blackboard function that allows it to be projected onto dark backgrounds. The resolution is 1024 x 768 and it has a brightness of 2200 lumens. It can project a screen size of 30 to 300-inches from 2.9 to 35.9 feet. It supports resolution sup to 1080p. Pricing and availability are unknown. Read more

Aiptek unveiled the Pocket Cinema V10 LED projector about the size of a mobile phone.
The Aiptek Pocket Cinema V10 already ships in Germany for 299 EUR (~$437). Measurements of the Aiptek V10 are only 125x55x23mm and it can project video with VGA resolution up to 50 inch in size.
With the integrated 1GB of storage and the SD card slot you can just appear at meeting with the Aiptek V10 and dazzle your audience with the tiny projector gadget.

Epson Unveils THE-DM2 All-in-One Projector
Epson announced its latest all-in-one projector called the EH-DM2 today. The projector combines a DVD player with DivX capability and a surround sound speaker system into a portable package. The projector has a pair of 8W speakers built-in.
The brightness of the projector is 1200 lumens and the projector is HD compatible. Input choices for the projector include PC, USB, DVD, TV, cameras and MP3 players. The projector has a USB slot for viewing images on a big screen. Pricing for the projector is under €600 with VAT and the projector will be available in September. Read more

Delta Unveils First LED Backlit Projector
Delta Electronics has unveiled the development of a fully LED backlit projector for the consumer market. The projector uses Delta's high throughput LED optics and can display full 1080p resolution. The image quality promises to be higher than other projectors on the market.
The big benefit of using LEDs is the lamp life -- 20000 with normal operation. The projector uses DLP technology and is being shown for the first time at IFA in Berlin. It is unknown when the projector will be available for purchase and what the price will be. Read more

Epson Announces EH-TW420 Projector
Epson has announced a new home theater projector called the EH-TW420. Epson calls the projector an affordable HD projector for the home. The unit has 2000 lumens of brightness, built-in speakers and more.
The resolution is 720p and input options include HDMI, USB, SD card, and S-video. Epson 3LCD technology is used in the projector for bright picture and better color. Different color modes are included for different uses from movies to gaming. The projector will be available in September for under <€ 800 in Europe. Read more

Toshiba to Show Eco-Products at IFA 2008
Toshiba has offered a glimpse of the eco-friendly products that it will be showing off at IFA 2008. The products will include LCD TVs like the 42XV515D that features brightness control to reduce the number of backlights needed saving up to 20% power consumption.
LED lighting products will also be shown that are for the Japanese market only. Notebook PCs on display will include the Portege R500 series -- the world's lightest notebook model. One of the most interesting products to be shown is Toshiba's SCiB Super Charge ion Battery. The battery can recharge to 90% of its capacity in less than 5 minutes. Read more

Nikon D90 Review of Pre-Production Model
The new Nikon D90 DSLR camera got announced yesterday. We already reported about a Nikon D90 hands-on video report. Like always the major photography magazines and sites got a pre-production model of the new Nikon DSLR. DPReview published a detailed review using such a camera, which is pretty much identical to the final version of the Nikon D90.
The review also shows what the differences between the Nikon D90 and the Nikon D80.

Projectiondesign Launches High-end Home Theater Projectors
Projectordesign announced its new avielo series premium home theater projectors at the CEDIA EXPO. The projectors were all designed to be high-end for home theater aficionados. The series uses Philips UHP VIDI lamp technology and projectordesign's exclusive RealColor color management suite.
The line also uses 10-bit processing and features HDMI 1.3 interconnectivity. Each of the projectors has hand-selected optics and calibrated at the factory. The spectra has a 1920 x 1080 native resolution and is suitable for screen sizes up to 120-inch. The optix has the same full 1080p resolution and can be used on screen sizes up to 180-inch. Qimonda Starts Volume Production for XDR DRAM for PS3
Qimonda AG announced that it has started shipping XDR DRAM in volume for the Sony PS3 game console. The first 512MB samples started to ship in January 2008. The memory operates at 3.2Gbps, has 6.4GB/s of peak memory bandwidth and provides 12.8GB/s of bandwidth per device.
Qimonda says that the XDR DRAM will allow designers to provide an order of magnitude higher performance than possible by today's standards. The designers can also get more performance with fewer memory devices. Read more

Toshiba Launches TLP-XE30U Projector
Toshiba announced a new portable projector called the TLP-XE30U that takes advantage of 3LCD technology and offers Blackboard functionality. The projector has 3000 ANSI lumens and retails for $1119.
The blackboard function allows presentations to be made on non-screen surfaces like a painted wall or blackboard. The projector also features quick shutdown and no cool down time is required before it can be unplugged. The native resolution is 1024 x 768 and it can reproduce 16.7 million colors. Inputs include S-video, RCA, and D-sub. Read more

AMD Opteron Processor sets VMmark Record
AMD announced that its Opteron processor has set a new record for performance on VMware VMmark virtualization benchmark for x86 servers using AMD Opteron quad-core processors. The system that set the new record for the benchmark is a HP ProLiant DLO585 G5. AMD says that it now owns the top three spots on 16-core VMmark benchmarks.
AMD says that its Rapid Virtualization Indexing technology is one of the main reasons it is able to perform so well on the virtualization benchmark. The technology allows fast switching between virtual machines on servers running AMD processors. Read more

First Projector Mobile Phone Epoq EGP-PP01 is shipping
We have seen prototypes of mobile phones with an integrated projector and we have heard that these are coming. Epoq, known for selling MP4 wristwatches is now shipping a GSM phone with integrated video projection capability.
The Epoq EGP-PP01 is a tri-band GSM unlocked mobile phone with touch screen, media player and more. The integrated micro-projection module can project stored images and video as large as 30 inch diagonal. It can also be connected to DVD players, portable media players, and other video sources to project the signal.
The resolution of the projector is 640 x 480 pixels and the battery lasts for 2 hours when projecting.

HTC is apparently manufacturing the newest Palm smartphone. Palm announced the Palm Treo Pro this week.
HTC is pretty much behind almost any Windows smartphone.

Palm Treo Pro Announced
Palm has officially announced the new Treo Pro handset running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. The handset offers portable versions of some Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The headset has Wi-Fi connectivity and features 320 x 320 pixel touchscreen.
The phone has a voicemail indicator light that flashes to let users know voicemails are waiting and dedicated buttons to access e-mail and calendar. The Treo Pro supports Microsoft Direct Push Technology for connecting to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007. The Treo Pro also has a removable and rechargeable battery and ships with a second battery. Read more

Taiwanese Fuchitek announces the Fuchiview PEP01 pico projector. The Fuchiview PEP01 measures only 115 x 50 x 22mm and weighs 160g.
The Pico projector features a VGA resolution and a 80:1 contrast ratio.
