Fujitsu Makes Smartphone With Modular Pico-Projector

It's finally happened. Ever since the first ultra-tiny pico-projectors started to hit, I've been waiting to see one stuck on a smartphone. Now, according to Akihabara News, Fujitsu is about to make this wonderful dream a reality. At least for people who live in Japan.

The F-04B is like no smartphone you've ever seen. It's modular, and consists of up to three layers that slide together to make a Bluetooth-connected smartphone sandwich. This device has a display unit with a 3.4" touchscreen and a keyboard unit, each with its own Lithium-Ion battery. The full QWERTY keyboard can be removed, allowing you to use the phone as a thin touchscreen device. On its own, the keyboard acts as a microphone, speaker, and gamepad.

Sanyo Unveils PLC-XF1000 Projector with 12k Lumens

Sanyo has added yet another massively bright projector to its line of offerings called the PLC-XF1000. This projector is one of the brightest that the company offers with 12,000 lumens. That should be plenty of light for large venues and bright rooms.

To get so many lumens of output the projector uses a dual lamp system. The contrast ratio for the projector is also very good at 4000:1. Sanyo equips the projector with its active maintenance filter system and its QuaDrive optical engine. Read more

Hitachi Experiments With Laser Micro Projectors For 3D Displays

Hitachi has shown at the CEATEC an interesting 3D display prototype.
The 10-inch VGA resolution 3D display does not require glasses and uses 16 projectors to create the 3D effect.
TechOn (via 3d-display-info) calls this technology "Full Parallax 3D TV" and it uses the method of Integral Photography with Overlaid Projection to achieve a 3D image that differs depending on the viewers position. Read more

Funai Makes Touch Sensitive Projector

Touchscreens are awesome. I don't think anyone doubts that they are the wave of the future. Unfortunately, right now they're also rather expensive. Cost is especially an issue when you deal with really large screens. According to Tech-On (via Electronista) projector manufacturer Funai may have found the solution to this problem with their Eco projector system.

The Funai Eco was debuted this week at the CEATEC show in Japan. This projector uses Nippon Signal's Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) scanner to create a laser projector that responds to touch input. Users can rotate, replace, enlarge, or otherwise manipulate a displayed object with their fingers alone.

Epson Offers Multimedia Business Projectors Starting Under $600

Epson has announced three new projectors in its EX-series today that offer good features at prices starting under $600. The projectors include the EX31, EX51, and EX71. The three projectors are aimed at businesses looking for good performance at a good price.

The projectors have 2,500 lumens of light output making them bright enough for rooms that aren’t dark. The EX31 will sell for $549, the EX51 will sell for $649, and the EX71 will sell for $749. The projectors have 3LCD technology for vibrant images. The EX31 has SVGA resolution, the EX51 offers XGA resolution and HDMI, and the EX71 offers WXGA resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Read more

Microvision Showwx Pico Laser Projector Goes Commercial

I mentioned recently that Microvision has announced the receipt of its first purchase order for its cool pico laser projector called the Showwx and was getting set to ship the first order. Microvision has now announced that the Showwx will be launched commercially.

The company will distribute the small laser pico projector through OEM channels through direct sales and international distributors. The projectors will also be distributed in Asia and Europe in the next several weeks. Read more

Microvision Ships Laser Pico Projector Showwx

We caught our first look at the Showwx pico laser projector back in January and were intrigued by a laser projector so small. Microvision has announced that it has received a purchase order and is set to begin shipping the Showwx. Microvision says that the Showwx is the world's first laser pico projector.

The plug-and-play projector is palm sized and looks to address one of the major shortcomings of most other pico projectors -- low brightness. The pico projectors I have used have not had enough lumens to work in a room that was even marginally bright. Read more

Samsung unveils P410M Projector

CEDIA Expo ran all last week, the premier home theater show of the year. Each year at the show there are a ton of home theater products unveiled and this year was no exception. Samsung unveiled a slew of new products including the P410M Pocket Projector.

The projector weighs under two pounds and measures in at 5.8" x 2.5" x 5.7" and uses DLP optical engine with an LED light source good for 30,000 hours. The projector reproduces 140% of the NTSC color gamut. Connectivity options include VGA and RAC composite video. Read more

Optoma's PK102 Pico Projector: Smaller and Cheaper

Pico projectors have faded from the public consciousness a bit. There was quite a stir around them when they first hit the streets, but people have started to realize that a projector on its own isn't quite as awesome as the hybrid models that are still to come. That said, the new PK102 Pico Projector from Optoma looks very hot right now. (via Engadget)

It's got 480 x 320 native resolution, 2,000:1 contrast ratio (doubled from the prior versions), a DLP engine, and 4 GB of internal memory. The PK102 also packs a few new connectivity options, like composite video input, and a universal VGA port.

InFocus Launches ScreenPlay 8602 Projector

InFocus has announced a new home theater projector called the SP8602 that features native e1080p resolution and promises deep blacks and bright colors. The projector claims to be bright enough for multipurpose rooms and viewing with the lights on.

The max contrast ratio is 30,000:1 and the brightness for the projector is 1300 lumens. Other features of the projector include TI DLP DarkChip technology with BrilliantColor, a 10-bit video processor, and support for 120Hz refresh rates. Read more

Epson Offers 1080p Projectors for Custom Home Theater Installers

Earlier this morning we talked about the new Epson home theater projectors for enthusiasts. Epson has also announced a pair of new projectors today that are aimed at the pro installer market. The projectors are the PowerLite Pro Cinema 9100 and 9500 UB. The projectors are both 1080p 3LCD units with lots of similarities to the two consumer projectors I already talked about.

The 9100 has both ISF day and night modes for switching picture modes and lamp output. The projector also uses Epson Color Isolation system for fine-tuning of color saturation and hue without needing blue and red optical filters. The contrast ratio is 16,000:1 with 1800 lumens of brightness. Read more

Epson Announces Two 1080p Projectors for Home Theater

Epson has added two new home theater projectors to its line of projectors. The two new products are the PowerLite Home Cinema 8100 and the 8500 UB. Both projectors are 3LCD units with 1080p resolution. The 8100 has a dynamic contrast ratio of 36000:1 and the 8500 UB has a dynamic contrast ratio of 200000:1.

The 8100 sells for $1599 and the 8500 UB will sell for under $3000. Epson promises that both projectors offer good color reproduction with crisp and natural images. Other features of the 8100 include 1800 lumens of brightness and light can be controlled on a frame-by-frame basis at 60 times per second. Read more

NEC Debuts NP4100W Projector for Large Venues

NEC offers a wide range of projectors and its latest projector is the NEC NP4100W. The projector offers the ability to throw images from 40 to 500 inches at distances from 2.8 feet to 304 feet. The projector uses DLP technology and has a bayonette to fit five different lenses.

The projector is designed for professional installation in large venues and has lamp extending technology to push the lamp life to 3,000 hours. The native resolution of the projector is 1280 x 800. Read more

Viewsonic PJD2121 Projector offers HD in Small Package

Viewsonic unveiled a new projector yesterday that is very small, but still offers support for 720p HD resolution. The projector is called the PJD2121, measures in at a small 8.1 x 4.7 x 2.6 inches, and weighs only 2.6 pounds.

The biggest downside to the small projector is that the brightness isn’t all that great at 400 ANSI lumens. The contrast ratio for the projector is 1800:1 and the aspect ratio is 4:3 native, but 16:9 is supported. The projector will throw an image from 35 to 150 inches. Read more

InFocus Cuts Wires Between Computer and Projector

Projector company InFocus has announced a new solution that allows it to cut the cords between a computer and its line of projectors. The wireless solution is made possible through a partnership with Wisair, a leading provider of Wireless USB solutions.

Coolpix S1000pj LED Projector Equipped Camera leaked

The miniaturization of projectors is one of the coolest current tech trends. PhotoReview Australia managed to capture some information about four new Nikon Coolpix cameras. One of them, the Coolpix S1000pj, is the first digital camera with a built-in projector. NikonRumors.com has more information about the new cameras, and a photo gallery.

The first of these new cameras is the Coolpix S640, which comes with a 5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide angle coverage and autofocus with 12.2 megapixel resolution. This camera is based around speed, it brags a .7 second start-up time and a very short shutter-release time. The S640 has a 2.7” Clear Color Display with human face recognition and object tracking. It's expected retail price is $500.
