Star Wars R2-D2 Home Theater System available from Hammacher

The coolest R2-D2 replica on this planet is now selling from gadget shop Hammacher and Schlemmer.

Nikko introduced the Home Theater Star Wars R2-D2 in June. The highlights of this R2-D2 are the DLP projection system with 1,500:1 contrast and SVGA resolution (1024x728px), DVD/CD player, Apple iPod docking station, two 20-watt built-in speakers and a Millennium Falcon shaped remote control.

Nikko R2-D2 DVD Player and Projector available for Pre-Order

We reported about the ultimate Star Wars R2-D2 replica last month. Nikko integrated a DVD player, SVGA LCD projector and iPod dock in the little cute Star Wars robot.

Now the first stores offer the limited edition R2-D2 DVD Projector. UK retailer Play.com has the ultimate R2-D2 available for pre-order at a hefty £1,999.99 (~$4,100).

Shipping date for Star Wars Nikko R2-D2 DVD Projector is September 1st. There are different claims on how many of these R2-D2s will be available. One source suggests that there are only 4,000 available for Europe. Another source says 15,000.

I have not found a store in the United States yet that list the Nikko R2-D2 DVD Player and Projector for pre-order. It will be interesting what the price will be state side. Read more

The cute Star Wars robot R2-D2 is still not out of fashion and new replicas are appearing in regular frequency. The Japanese Nikko Group is now actually getting very close to a R2D2 replica that can do things the movie version is able to do.

Star Wars R2-D2 Robot Replica On Sale

The Star Wars R2-D2 robot available on Hammacher and Schlemmer does not offer any holographic video displays, but it is voice controlled.

Compared to the Robby the Robot replica, the R2-D2 actually can roam your apartment. R2 obeys to more than 40 voice commands (e.g.: Turn around! Move forward two units!) and he plays games like tag, using an infra-red sensor to search for people in a room.

R2-D2 has a sensor that helps him follow behind you, or it can be set to detect motion, turning R2 into a room sentry that sounds an alarm when a secured area is invaded.
