Sharp Aquos DV-ACW60 1TB HD Recorder
I feel so small with my 80GB digital video recorder. Terra Byte HD recorder are set to become the standard size in Japan. Sharp has just released the Aquos DV-ACW60 HD digital recorder with a 1TB HDD.
The Sharp DV-ACW60 has a Terrestrial BS 110 degree CS digital tuner supporting recording of 2 shows at the same time. Sharp also claims the fastest startup time with 0.8 seconds for the DV-ACW60.
Another new feature in a digital recorder is a high-speed IrDA interface. You can upload photos from a mobile phone to the recorder via infra-red to store it or view it on your TV.

5 New LG HDTV with integrated Digital HDD Recorder
LG announces in Korea 5 new HDTVs with integrated digital video recorder.
The new LG TVs include 37”, 42”, 47” LCD TVs and 50”, 60” Plasma TVs. All five feature an integrated digital video recorder. The new recording HDTVs feature a dual tuner to record two shows at the same time.
With 160GB LG is still keeping the capacity pretty small, compared to the new Panasonic HD digital video recorder that come with 600GB HDD.

Toshiba VARDIA RD-S600 and RD-S300 HD HDD and DVD Recorder
Toshiba announces two new HDD and DVD recorder under its VARDIA sub-brand in Japan.
The Toshiba VARDIA RD-S600 (600GB HDD) and RD-S300 (300GB HDD) can record the Japanese HD TV format Hi-Vision. Both can record two programs at the same time. You can store 78 hours of video on the RD-S600 and 39 hours on the RD-S300.

NEC announced that it is shipping already sample chip sets that enable to build Blu-ray and HD-DVD hybrid player and recorder.
Combined with the already announced Ricoh optical hybrid component we are all set to get hybrid HD players as early as 2007.

Sony Blu-ray Disc Recorder BDZ-V9 and BDZ-V7
Sony announces the BDZ-V9 and BDZ-V7 highly anticipated Blu-ray disc recorder in Japan.
The Sony BDZ-V9 features a 500GB HDD, whereas the BDZ-V7 comes with a smaller 250GB hard-drive. Besides the larger hard-drive the BDZ-V9 features 1080p output (the BDZ-V7 only does 1080i), Sony PSP memory stick video export and video serving via LAN.
Both Sony Blu-ray recorder support BD-R and BD-RE discs. The new devices feature the Sony XMB user interface known from the PSP and coming on the PS3.

Panasonic DMR-BW200 and DMR-BR100 Blu-ray Digital Recorder
Panasonic announces the DMR-BW200 and DMR-BW100 Blu-ray disc recorder with hard-drives in Japan.
The Panasonic DMR-BW200 comes with a 500GB HDD and the DMR-BW100 comes with a 200GB hard-drive. When recording HDTV a 200GB hard-drive becomes very small very fast.
Of course writing Blu-ray discs is the new feature here. The new Panasonic Blu-ray recorder support single and dual layer Blu-ray disc recording.
The DMR-BW200 features all-in-all 7 tuners. 2 HD programs can be recorded simultaneously to the HDD. Of course Panasonic has added their signature SD-Card slots on the new devices as well.

TiVo released a press-release announcing their new HD digital media recorder Series3.
The new TiVo Series3 is the world's first THX Certified DVR. Dual tuners allow you to record two different shows in HD at the same time, while watching a third pre-recorded show. The new OLED display always keeps you up to date what your beloved TiVo is doing right now.
The TiVo Series3 HD box enables you to record up to 32 hours of HD programming, or up to 300 hours of recording capacity in standard definition.
Other features include Ethernet port, USB, 2 CableCARD decoder, backlit, programmable TiVo remote and 1080i output over component or HDMI.

Sony announced in Japan new HD digital recorder RDZ-D900A, RDZ-D800 and RDZ-D700.

AMEX M505-BDR: Core Duo 2 Blu-ray Recorder with 1.5TB Coming This Month
Amex Digital just informed us that the M505-BDR A/V Center Computer with Blu-ray recorder will go on sale on August 28th in Europe starting at $2,000.
Amex announced the M505 Blu-ray AV Center back in May. The company updated the specifications a bit and the AMEX 505-BDR will feature an Intel Core Duo 2 CPU, Intel 945P Express chipset, ATI X1600 GPA with full HD 1080p HDMI out, 8.1 Channels Onboard Audio, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 1.5TB hard-drive storage, 100/1000 Base-T LAN, Wi-fi and Dual Hybrid digital TV turner with PIP.

New Panasonic Diga DMR-XW50, DMR-XW30 and DMR-XP10 HDTV HDD DVD Recorder
Panasonic announces three new digital video recorder with Hi-Vision (Japanese HDTV) digital tuner.
The Panasonic DMR-XW50 packs a 500GB hard-drive, while the DMR-XW30 comes with a 400GB drive. The DMR-XP10 only has a 200GB drive.
With the DMR-XW50 you can enjoy 1080p progressive video output. The new digital devices can record two digital programs at the same time and the system now also supports to record series (a standard TiVo feature, but not available on my Panasonic digital recorder).

Toshiba's RD-A1 HD DVD Recorder Pushed Back
Toshiba's totally tripped out HD DVD recorder, the RD-A1, will be pushed back a couple weeks, due to problems with securing the necessary parts to be able to have enough product for the earlier scheduled launch of July 14.
The RD-A1 will now launch on July 27 in Japan. There's still no word on if the recorder will be brought over to the US (though I think it's really just a question of when and not if). The price nears half a million yen ($3,460), so Toshiba's hope is only 10,000 units by the end of the year.

AMEX announces the HTPC A/V Center Computer MPC-505 with Blu-ray disc recorder and Intel Viiv.
The AMEX MPC-505 features 1TB hard-drive storage, analog and digital tuners, HDMI and DVI outputs and 2GB RAM.
It is good to see that smaller companies start to dive into the HD disc market. This is necessary to drive the prices down and the quality up.

Sony announces three new digital recorder in Japan.
The Sony RDZ-D97A (photo) and RDZ-D87 feature a 400GB HDD, while the RDZ-D77A comes with a 250GB hard-drive. These new recorder are equipped with a Hi-Vision tuner to record HD broadcasts.
The Sony RDZ-D97A and RDZ-D77A support video recording onto Memory sticks for playback on the Sony PSP.

Pioneer announced an 800GB High definition recorder in Japan.
Pioneer DVR-DT100 can record 92 hours in HD quality. The device can also record on dual layer DVD-R. Of course the Pioneer DVR-DT100 features an HDMI output. The EPG is provided by GemStar.

New Sony USB Stick Voice Recorder ICD-U70 and ICD-U60
Sony announces a compact digital voice recorder that can be directly plugged into a USB port to transfer data.
The Sony ICD-U70 (1GB) and ICD-U60 (512MB) can also play MP3 music files and record voice in MP3. It is nice to see that Sony sticks to the MP3 format. The 1GB model can record voice over 502 hours in long play mode. In MP3 format it’s only about 17 hours. The battery in recording mode holds for about 16 hours.

Sony introduces in Japan two new DVD recorders with Hard-drive and VHS tape deck.
The Sony RDR-VH95 features a 250GB HDD and the RDR-VH85 a 160GB drive.

New Compact Panasonic Stereo Voice Recorder RR-US900 and RR-US500
Panasonic announces in Japan two new voice recorder with stereo microphone dubbed RR-US900 and RR-US500.
Apparently the RR-US900 has the world's longest stereo voice recording capacity of 67 hours.
The new Panasonic stereo Voice recorders also feature a zoom microphone. Meaning the microphone can be aimed at a target and just record sound from a controlled area.
Panasonic bundles a voice language translation PC software to their new IC voice recorders.
