WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Breaks First Day Sales Record

Blizzard has announced that the second expansion pack to World of Warcraft called Wrath of the Lich King has broken sales records for launch day. The expansion pack sold more than 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability making it the fastest selling PC game of all time.

The previous record was 2.4 millio9n copies sold in the first 24 hours, which was the record set by the first expansion for WoW, The Burning Crusade. Blizzard says that over 15,000 stores worldwide opened at midnight for the game launch day and many locations had special events and had Blizzard personnel appearances. Read more

In case you did not hear, Black Friday did start early this year, very early. J&R just opened their Black Friday DVD and Blu-ray Sale, where you can shop your bargain movies now without time pressure and they will ship over Thanksgiving weekend.

Sharp 42 inch 1080p HDTV on Sale until Black Friday on Dell

Dell put the nice Sharp 42-inch LC42SB45U 1080p HDTV on Sale for $799 again. In early November you needed a coupon to get the LC42SB45U from Dell for $799, now Dell sells this Sharp full HD HDTV for $799 until November 27th (Thanksgiving Day). I am not sure what it means that Dell is not including Black Friday for this deal. It could mean that the price of this Sharp TV will go even lower, or not.

AMD to put Sales Hopes on Black Friday

Fortune runs a story on their blog saying that AMD is putting their hopes on strong sales during Black Friday and the Thanksgiving week.
Intel has lowered their forecast for the fourth quarter and AMD is still staying on their forecast and will apparently give another update after Black Friday.
I am not sure if sales of AMD based notebooks and Desktop PCs will be hot. The netbooks will take a huge overall bite out of the notebook segment. Read more

Sony PSP and Nintendo DS Sales lose Momentum

Here is another sign that people are staying at home this fall. The sales of portable video game consoles fell 14% in October compared to September. The home console sales increased for Nintendo and Microsoft in October.
Sales of the Sony PSP handheld device dipped from 238,100 in October to 193,000 September, while the Nintendo DS sales dropped from 536,800 to 491,000. Read more

Microsoft Store opens, will it have a Black Friday Sale?

Microsoft is going direct and launches an online store dubbed simply Microsoft Store.
The Microsoft Store is offering the complete software and hardware line-up of Microsoft. Yes this includes the Xbox 360 and the Zune players.
Selling direct is something that Apple has done for a very long time. I am not sure how Microsoft explained the move to open a store to their channel partners. Read more

Intel officially announced the new Core i7 CPUs and platform promising completely new levels of performance. In early November the Core i7 reviews hit the web and now finally the first Core i7 hardware components and systems are slowly becoming available for purchase.

Update: This Core i7 Rig disappeared, but now NewEgg sells the Core i7 CPUs and X58 Motherboards. Amazon.com sells now several Core i7 Gaming Desktop Systems.

Videogame Sales up 18% in October

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - U.S. sales of videogame hardware and software rose 18 percent in October from a year earlier, after falling 7 percent in September, as Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii console sold over 800,000 units, market researcher NPD reported on Thursday.
Video machine makers said the results boded well for the holiday season.
The Wii console secured its title once more as the country's best-selling videogame console after Nintendo sold 803,210 units of the Wii in October, up from 687,000 in the previous month. Wii sales have topped 13 million units since Nintendo released the console in November 2006.

Hot Weekend Sales available online and in-stores this Weekend

Retailers are trying really hard to jump start the holiday shopping. This weekend lots of sales are happening online and in-stores. Some items on sale already are as low as they will be on Black Friday.
Of course there is always the chance that the retailers will go even lower on the actual Thanksgiving sales weekend. Black Friday Doorbuster deals will for sure be priced lower, but they are hard to get as you have to line up very early. If you want to take the pressure out of your holiday shopping this season then the early holiday sales are a good thing. Read more
