SanDisk Announces 16GB microSD and M2 Cards
SanDisk announced what it claims to be the world's largest capacity microSD and M2 cards today with 16GB of storage each. The card will be available from Verizon Wireless stores and Best Buy Mobile stores.
The 16GB microSDHC card retails for $99.99 and the 16GB M2 card retails for $129.99. Both cards will be available in November and Best Buy and Verizon are the only two stores that will carry the card in 2008. Read more

Sandisk rejects Samsung Takeover Offer
Samsung made a public offer yesterday to buy SanDisk for $5.8 billion in cash after negotiations failed.
Sandisk rejected the offer and describes it as undervalued and opportunistic.
This deal would mark the largest acquisition by Samsung and also the largest purchase of a South Korean company in the United States.

SanDisk Extreme III 32Gb CF Card Launches
Today SanDisk announced its latest large capacity, high-performance CompactFlash memory card for DSLR cameras and video cameras. The new Extreme III CF card has 32GB of storage space and promises a write speed of 30MB/s.
SanDisk says that the new high capacity CF card can store 80 minutes of 100 MB/sec, 10-bit 4:2:2 HD video. The CF card is ideal for photographers who shoot exclusively in RAW mode. The 32GB CF Extreme III card will be available in October for $299.99. Read more

SanDisk Launches New Pattern
As much as students might not want to admit it, it's almost time to go back to school. To get kids geared up for school SanDisk has announced a new flash drive that looks cool and is cheap. The drive is called the SanDisk Cruzer Pattern.
Two capacities and colors are available. The 2GB Pattern retails for $14.99 and comes in black. The 1GB pattern retails for $9.99 and comes in gray. Both drives share the same features including U3 program compatibility, one-click password protected security, and compatibility with PC, Mac and Linux programs. Read more

SanDisk SD Cards Make Data Unalterable
SanDisk has announced new SD WORM memory cards for uses where data needs to be retained in a format that is unalterable. The SD WORM (write once read many) digital memory card is intended for uses like police investigations, court testimony, electronic voting and other applications where data needs to be protected from alteration or deletion.
SanDisk says that data written to its SD WORM cards is immediately locked with no physical way to alter the data or delete individual files. The cards can be read in any standard SD card slot device. SanDisk also says that the data written to the disc has a 100-year archive life. Read more

SanDisk acquires MusicGremlin
SanDisk today announced it has acquired MusicGremlin, a privately-held technology company that develops digital content distribution technologies. The acquisition falls under SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video business unit.
“MusicGremlin’s digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers,” said Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior vice president for SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video business unit.

New SanDisk SSDs aimed at Ultra Low Cost PCs
SanDisk has launched a new pSSD flash memory module that is aimed at the emerging netbook market. The new SSD modules are available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities and have a streaming read speed of 39MB/sec and a streaming write performance of 17 MB/sec.
SanDisk points out that the drives will support both Windows and Linux, making them ideal for use in systems like the Asus Eee. The drives are scheduled to be available starting in August. SanDisk says that the drives are built using its Multi-Level Cell and Single-Level Cell flash memory. Pricing for the modules is unknown. Read more

SanDisk Launches Extreme III Memory Stick Pro
SanDisk announced its latest product aimed at Sony electronics called the SanDisk Extreme III Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. The MS promises read and write speeds of 30 MB per second and will be available in June.
The new card will come in either 4GB or 8GB capacities and is aimed at Sony DSLR cameras, point-and-shoot cameras and camcorders. In addition to being very fast the cards can also operate in extreme temperatures from -13 to 185 F and ship with software to recover deleted images. Pricing for the cards is $89.99 for the 4GB and $149.99 for the 8GB. Read more

SanDisk Launches Premium Mobile Phone Storage
SanDisk announced what it calls the industry’s first premium mobile phone memory cards this week. The cards are called SanDisk mobile Ultra and can be had in microSD/SDHC and M2 varieties.
All the cards in the line come with a small USB adapter to allow direct transfer of data to and from the memory cards and a USB port on your PC. Capacities available are 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB. The microSD/SDHC cards range from $34.99 to $119.99 and the M2 cards range from $39.99 to $129.99. Read more

SanDisk Puts RSA SecurID Authentication into Flash Drive
SanDisk announced today that it has integrated two-factor authentication technology into a Cruzer flash drive. The Cruzer Enterprise is a two-for-one solution that allows one device to provide a hardware authenticator and a flash drive.
The Cruzer Enterprise is managed by SanDisk CMC server software to allows managers to provision and monitor flash drives. The device also stores RSA SecurID software tokens that combines a one-time passcode stored on the device with a PIN that the user has to access the drive. Read more

SanDisk Announces the Sansa Fuze
SanDisk announced a new addition to its Sansa line of MP3 players today called the Sansa Fuze. The Fuze is slated to be available in early April. Three different versions of the Fuze will be offered.
The difference between the versions is the storage capacity offered. The Fuze 2GB is available in black; the 4GB will be available in black, red, pink or blue, and an 8GB version available in silver only. The players will retail for $79.99 for the 2GB, $99.99 for the 4GB, and $129.99 for the 8GB. Read more

SanDisk and Big Fish Games Offer Casual Games for USB Devices
SanDisk and Big Fish Games announced today that they have teamed up for a new website that offers casual games that can fit onto a USB drive using U3 smart technology. The website currently offers 56 different game titles.
The games can be bought for $19.99 or $6.99 with a Game Club subscription from Big Fish Games. I’m not sure about the pricing structure, $19.99 for a casual game seems too high to me. Game genres include puzzle, action, board games and more. Read more

SanDisk 16GB iNAND for Mobile Phones
SanDisk announced today that it was bringing the new iNAND 16GB embedded flash drive to market for mobile handsets. SanDisk says the dive is based on Advanced MLC NAND flash technology and will provide high storage capacity for next generation handsets.
The new iNAND has a 12x16mm package for the 16GB of storage space. “As more and more applications and multimedia capabilities converge within sleeker mobile handsets, the need for high-capacity mobile storage increases substantially from year to year," said Dan Inbar, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Handset Vendors division at SanDisk. "The new 16GB iNAND is the ideal solution for accommodating mobile applications, operating system programs and premium content such as large quantities of music, photos and video. Featuring a standard package interface, the 16GB iNAND EFD is designed to be quickly integrated into various handset designs for both storage capacity scalability and a smooth migration to future products and functionalities, such as system boot." SanDisk & SK Telecom Announce Card Based Mobile PVR
SanDisk and SK Telecom have teamed up for a new personal video recording device that uses SanDisk’s TrustedFlash along with services from SK Telecom. The new product allows mobile users to view and record paid mobile TV content anytime from anywhere on the wireless network. SK Telecom is the largest mobile provider in Korea.
"By combining our proven, industry-standard OMA(1) DRM(2) version 2.0-compliant DRM solution and services, TrustedFlash security technology and mobile storage solutions from SanDisk, we can set new standards for secure content recording and distribution," said Dr. Se-Hyun Oh, president of C&I Biz Company, SK Telecom. Sandisk announces World's first x3 NAND and 43nm Mass Production
Today Sandisk announced that it expects to start mass production of the world’s first commercial three-bit-per-cell (x3) NAND flash memory in March/April 2008.
The 16-gigabit (Gb) x3 NAND flash employs SanDisk’s standard 56 nanometer (nm) flash technology and provides over 20 percent more die per wafer compared to standard NAND Multi-Level Cell (MLC) memory (2-bits-per-cell) on the same technology node. x3 enables higher manufacturing efficiency and lower die cost for the same capital investment. The new x3 flash architecture has been in development for the past two years and employs SanDisk’s most advanced patented design innovations to achieve the same performance and high reliability found in SanDisk’s 2-bits-per-cell chips.

SanDisk Adds 32GB, 16GB and 8GB SDHC Cards
SanDisk announced a couple of new additions to its line of high-capacity SDHC cards. The SanDisk Ultra II line now includes 32GB and 16GB SDHC cards. SanDisk also added an 8GB Ultra II SDHC Plus card as well.
The SDHC Plus card folds in the middle exposing a USB connector that allows the direct connection of the card to a PC without needing a card reader. SanDisk says the cards have read and write speeds of 15 MB/sec up from previous SDHC cards with 10MB/sec read and 9MB/sec write. Read more
