Seagate Launches DIY Lost File Recovery Tool

Topic:

Seagate Launches DIY Lost File Recovery Tool Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review If you have ever lost data to a virus, OS crash or a malicious user you know how frustrating having to recreate files, if that is even possible, can be. Take that a step further with business where you run the risk of disgruntled employees erasing files purposefully that can seriously damage a business and cost more than money.

Before I worked in the world of full time geeks I was an IT guy for a pharmacy. We had an employee erase files that we needed when she quit her job. The files could not be reproduced so we had to resort to sending the drive out to a lab for data extraction. The bill for the work was well into the hundreds of dollars, plus it was well over two weeks before the data was available again. Had the data been mission critical the company would have been out of business for the entire time it took for data retrieval. Read more

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive Review

Topic:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The Tech Report published a detailed review of the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 with perpendicular recording technology. Seagate introduced the 750GB 7200.10 in April.

Quote:
"Perpendicular recording does wonders for storage capacity, and thanks to denser platters, it can also improve drive performance. Couple those benefits with support for 300 MB/s Serial ATA transfer rates, Native Command Queuing, and up to 16 MB of cache, and the Barracuda 7200.10 starts to look pretty appealing. Throw in an industry-leading five year warranty and a cost per gigabyte that's competitive with 500 GB drives, and you may quickly find yourself scrambling to justify a need for 750 GB of storage capacity.

Is Seagate's Barracuda 7200.10 as good as it sounds? And what's the deal with perpendicular recording technology, anyway? "

In addition, Seagate today unveils a new application of its DriveTrust technology that enables cable service operators and DVR makers to lock external storage devices to a specific DVR or other device. Seagate 200GB Push Button External Hard Drive Review

Topic:

Seagate 200GB Push Button External Hard Drive Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review EverythingUSB reviews the Seagate 200GB Push Button External Hard Drive.

Quote:
"The new Seagate External Drive series encompasses three separate products: 160GB Hi-Speed USB drive; 160GB Hi-Speed USB & Firewire 400 (1394a) drive; 200GB Hi-Speed USB & Firewire 400 (1394a) drive. The 200GB model was put to test in this review. The new Seagate external drives seems to have followed the lead of the other drive manufacturers in creating a one-button backup external USB drive. What may be different in Seagate’s case is that each facet of the drive is absolutely top-notch. The enclosure supports USB 2.0 and Firewire (IEEE 1394). The drive itself is both a 7200RPM drive and also sports 8MB cache memory for faster sequential transfers (backups are sequential in nature)."
