Seagate Cheetah X15K.6 Hard Drive Review
Hothardware published a review of the Seagate Cheetah X15K.6 Hard Drive.
Quote from the review: "Traditional hard disk storage is living on borrowed time. We know it and storage manufacturers know it. Solid state drives, which use non-volatile memory chips instead of rotating metal discs for storing data, are simply a better medium in the long run. They consume less power, create nearly zero heat, and produce no noise – but best of all, there are no moving parts to wear out over time. The technology and prices aren’t quite there yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Take a quick look through any tech-oriented forum and you will likely run into folks proclaiming the death of traditional platter based storage. For the most part, they're right - but there is a twist to the story as platter based storage manufacturers are fighting back.

Seagate Launches DIY Lost File Recovery Tool
If you have ever lost data to a virus, OS crash or a malicious user you know how frustrating having to recreate files, if that is even possible, can be. Take that a step further with business where you run the risk of disgruntled employees erasing files purposefully that can seriously damage a business and cost more than money.
Before I worked in the world of full time geeks I was an IT guy for a pharmacy. We had an employee erase files that we needed when she quit her job. The files could not be reproduced so we had to resort to sending the drive out to a lab for data extraction. The bill for the work was well into the hundreds of dollars, plus it was well over two weeks before the data was available again. Had the data been mission critical the company would have been out of business for the entire time it took for data retrieval. Read more

Seagate Confirms 1TB 3.5'' HDD
Seagate has confirmed to DailyTech that they will be launching a 1TB HDD in the first half of 2007. The new 1TB drive will use the perpendicular recording technology Seagate pioneered with the 750 GB drive.
The new drive however will utilize fewer platters and less heads meaning the platters will hold more data than the ones in the current 750GB drive. This move leaves the other big hard drive manufacturers in the dust as no one else has matched the 750 GB HDD from Seagate to date. Read more

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive Review
The Tech Report published a detailed review of the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 with perpendicular recording technology. Seagate introduced the 750GB 7200.10 in April.
Quote:
"Perpendicular recording does wonders for storage capacity, and thanks to denser platters, it can also improve drive performance. Couple those benefits with support for 300 MB/s Serial ATA transfer rates, Native Command Queuing, and up to 16 MB of cache, and the Barracuda 7200.10 starts to look pretty appealing. Throw in an industry-leading five year warranty and a cost per gigabyte that's competitive with 500 GB drives, and you may quickly find yourself scrambling to justify a need for 750 GB of storage capacity.
Is Seagate's Barracuda 7200.10 as good as it sounds? And what's the deal with perpendicular recording technology, anyway?
"
