Walmart announced yesterday hot electronics deals for this coming Saturday Nov. 7th. These In-Store Deals are Black Friday worthy and we have analyzed the deals in detail here. In addition to the 42-inch Sharp LC42SB45UT HDTV deal, Walmart also mentioned two 120Hz Sharp HDTVs, but did not reveal the model numbers. Now Walmart has published the details of the two 120Hz Sharp HDTVs on their online shop. Unfortunately not all stores will carry these Sharp TVs.

Sharp Breaks Solar Conversion Efficiency Record

Solar power isn't just some pie-in-the-sky power source that might be effective "some day". Right now, solar cells are cheap and effective enough to be useful in a wide variety of real world tasks. When I go camping, my solar panels keep my laptop and smartphone charged. When the power died at my house this summer, my neighbor's large solar array kept the lights on and the fans blowing. Solar power is cheap and effective now, and it's getting better every day.

By way of proof, you can check this report by Engadget on Sharp's most recent solar breakthrough. They've just sent out a press release announcing a new height in solar energy conversion efficiency. Their triple-junction compound cell just broke a world record by showing a 35.8% cell conversion efficiency. While this sort of solar technology is mainly used on satellites right now, it's only a matter of time before it trickles down into the consumer sector.

Like CES, the CEATEC show in Japan hands out awards for innovative products. The CEATEC 2009 Innovations Award got judged by a panel of U.S. Journalists.
The Grand Prix award went to Mirumo, a dual-screen mobile phone by Sharp, and Mr. Kanellos (Greentech Media) stated the reason for the selection was not only because the product realized an integration of telephone and IC chip but also generated a new level of technology. Read more

Sharp Opens World's First 10th-Generation LCD Panel Plant

Sharp Corporation started the operations at the new LCD panel plant in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
The new Sharp LCD panel plant is the first facility in the world to adopt 10th-generation glass substrates. Using Sharp's proprietary UV2A photo-alignment technology, the plant is capable of producing high-contrast, energy-efficient panels of 40 inches and larger, marking a new era in large displays. Sharp Unveils New Memory LCD

Sharp Microelectronics has announced a new Memory LCD at SID. The new LCD is a 1.35-inch Monochrome Square that will be in a line of displays with other sizes. The line will also soon include color displays according to Sharp.

The new Memory LCD is aimed at applications in mobile phones, watches, remote controls and performance tracking electronics. The 1.35-inch LCD has a monochrome resolution of 96 x 96 and is capable of displaying smooth graphics with 50% reflectance and only 15 µW of power consumption. Read more

Sharp Mebius Netbook Available in the US

We mentioned the weird Sharp Mebius netbook last week that has the second LCD screen that doubles as a track pad and hand writing recognition pad. The netbook is cool in an over the top way, but has little real world use.

Still for those who thrive on different, cool, and odd products, the Mebius netbook can now be had in the US from the gang at the website Dynamism. The netbook will cost you much more than any netbook is worth at $999. You could buy several real netbooks for that price. Read more

Sharp Mebius PC-NJ70A Offers Weird LCD Track Pad

I have seen some odd features offered on computers and laptops over the years, but the Sharp Mebius may be the strangest offering yet. The netbook has a second LCD boasting a resolution of 854 x 480 where you would typically find the track pad.

The small LCD acts as the track pad and can reportedly recognize handwriting as well for emailing and other functions. Once you get past the strange LCD, the remainder of the netbook is what you expect to find. Read more

The new 1080p AQUOS LCD / Blu-ray player combination product offers the convenience of an all-in-one home theater solution with a new Superlucent Advanced Super View (ASV) panel for a dramatically bright and crisp picture. Sharp 42 inch 1080p HDTV on Sale until Black Friday on Dell

Dell put the nice Sharp 42-inch LC42SB45U 1080p HDTV on Sale for $799 again. In early November you needed a coupon to get the LC42SB45U from Dell for $799, now Dell sells this Sharp full HD HDTV for $799 until November 27th (Thanksgiving Day). I am not sure what it means that Dell is not including Black Friday for this deal. It could mean that the price of this Sharp TV will go even lower, or not.

The Sharp LC42SB45U 1080p HDTV sells for about $1,000 on other stores (Compare Prices).

Apple Stock fell sharply, does it really look that bad?

On Monday the stock market took one of its biggest hits in history. Apple's stock got hit even harder as untimely analyst downgrades sent the stock down 18%. The question though is if things are really looking that bad for Apple and I would say no. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster also does not see Apple's near term performance that bleak.
Sure their is concern of a downturn in consumer spending, but I believe that Apple will still get a big junk of whatever consumers are willing to spend on electronics this holiday shopping season. Read more
