Sony PS3 Slim 20% Off In Germany, Possible PS3 Slim Black Friday Deal?
We rarely report about electronics sales that happen in Germany as we are focusing on our U.S. readers. But this is interesting also for the U.S. market as it might give some ideas on how low the price of the Sony PS3 Slim could go on Black Friday.
Amazon Deutschland and MediaMarkt are offering the Sony PS3 Slim right now at only 239 Euro instead of 299 Euro, which is a 20% discount.
If you apply a 20% discount on the U.S. pricing of the Sony PS3 Slim you would get a price of $239.99 instead of $299.99.

Sony puts a $50 premium on the 250GB PS3 Slim compared to the 120GB Sony PS3 Slim console, which sounds fair.

PS3 Slim Outsells Competition in UK
Reliable US sales statistics for the PS3 Slim aren't available yet, but Yahoo! Tech has the European numbers, courtesy of market-researcher Chart-Track. According to them, the Slim is currently outselling both the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 by a 3 to 1 ratio. Overall, PS3 sales are up 1000% over the previous week.
Of course, a lot of this is due to the fact that the gap between the PS3 and opposing consoles was much less in the UK than it is in the US. There, they were only behind by around a million units. Here, the gap is nine times larger. The fact that customers held off buying normal PS3s over the last few weeks in anticipation over the Slim also likely contributed to the sharp growth seen.

Sony PS3 Slim Is Out Of Stock [Update2]
So you did not pre-order the Sony PS3 Slim? Well now the new PS3 is out of stock on Amazon.
Update:
Amazon updated the shipping date. The PS3 Slim ships usually in 1-2 months. This would mean that Sony's U.S. PS3 Slim stock is depleted and they first need to make new ones to fill the channel. Gamestop is still having PS3 Slim in stock and ships within 24h. Update: Amazon has stock of the PS3 Slim again on Friday.
As reported the Sony PS3 Slim started to ship today - one week earlier than initially announced.

Will Microsoft and Nintendo Respond to the PS3 Slim?
The gaming industry is in a slump. Sony's loaded their hopes for a rebound onto the back of the PS3 Slim, but what are Microsoft and Nintendo going to do? The Slim is selling out in the US, and there are even rumors of a 250 GB Slim under production. Both Nintendo and Microsoft are going to want to let some of the wind out of Sony's sails before the holiday season hits. But how?
Microsoft may already have made their big move. They are rumored to be slashing the price of their Xbox 360 Elite down to $299. With the Slim out and PS3 prices down, the Elite is now the costliest system out there. There is evidence that Microsoft has been planning this cut since information about the Slim first leaked out back around E3. A price cut alone might actually be all Microsoft needs to do to continue beating Sony in sales.

PS3 Slim Shortages in U.S.?
If you want to get your PS3 Slim before September, you'd better order it now. According to Engadget, Amazon is reporting shortages of the PS3 Slim. These supply issues apparently range across the US, and Amazon has started limiting customers here to only one slim per person as a result.
Over in Europe, the situation is much less dire. Customers have only been limited to 5 Slims per person (who on earth needs five Slims?) and Sony has assured European stores that they have truckloads of Slims just waiting to be unloaded. Now, for the big question on everyone's mind; is this a real shortage, or an artificially induced one? Is the Slim really more popular than Sony anticipated, or are they just trying to build up demand by creating scarcity?

Adesso Releases New Wireless SlimTouch Keyboard
Adesso has announced the availability of a new slim wireless keyboard called the WKB-4000UB. The keyboard looks like a netbook that has had the screen ripped off to me. The roughly square wireless keyboard sports a track pad so no mouse is needed.
Wireless connectivity for the keyboard is via 2.4GHz technology. I mentioned the track pad integrated into the keyboard, it also sports a pair of mouse buttons. The keyboard also has 12 function keys. Read more

The PS3 Slim: Savior or Stopgap?
Let's get this out of the way up front; the PS3 Slim is one sexy piece of gaming equipment. As a gamer, I appreciate it's merits as a stylish, portable, inexpensive console that plays host to some of the hottest upcoming titles in gaming world. But just being cool isn't enough. Sony is relying on the Slim to lift their gaming division out of a 3 year, 4.2 billion dollar slump and return them to profitability. And, unfortunately, it doesn't look like the Slim is going to have what it takes to do that.
Yes, I realize the Slim is the #1 pre-order on Amazon.com right now. And that's wonderful for Sony, but when the hype dies down they're going to have to deal with the same old problem; the economy is bad and the PS3 is still the 'expensive' console. The Slim retails for $300, which puts it equal with the Xbox 360, still more expensive than the Nintendo Wii ($250).

250 GB Sony PS3 Slim Coming?
Yesterday Sony announced officially the product we'd all been waiting for since before E3, the Sony PlayStation 3 Slim. The Slim is a cheaper, smaller, prettier version of the PS3, and you can get one with a 120 GB HD for only $299.99. That's a very reasonable price for a modern console, but if you're looking to pick up a Slim you might want to hold off for a little while.
Engadget has uncovered the patent information for the Slim, and they've learned some interesting things. It turns out the Slim was submitted to the FCC as a “Computer Entertainment System” made by Sand Dollar Enterprise, Inc, a fictional company with the same address as Sony. This was obviously a clever ruse to keep bloggers from uncovering proof of their new product before the show.
