Sanyo announced new gadgets powered by the rechargeable eneloop batteries including the new eneloop Solar light.
The eneloop solar light is equipped with the proprietary high efficiency HIT solar cell, a product originally developed by Sanyo, installed in various roof forms worldwide.
The light stores the energy in eneloop batteries inside and can be used as flashlight or roomlight.
Via the USB port you can power your MP3 player or mobile phoens.

Solar Charging Tree for Gadgets
I have seen my share of solar chargers for all sorts of USB gadgets. Most of them are smallish boxy devices devoid of any cool factor. If you want a solar charger that is different, the PhotonSynthese is the ticket.
The bonsai looking tree is made from a series of section of different lengths and shapes that connect together with connectors that look like headphone connectors. The leaves of the tree are solar panels. Read more

Ricoh to install Solar and Wind powered Billboard at Times Square
Japanese company Ricoh announced to install a solar and wind powered billboard at Time Square in New York by December.
The billboard would be powered by 4 wind power generators and 45 solar cell panels.
The generated "Green" power would surpass 98 kilowatt-hours per day.

National SolarMagic to fight partial Shading on Solar Cells
The WSJ reports that National Semiconductor will introduce a device today dubbed SolarMagic that can help reduce the impact of partial shading on solar cells.
SolarMagic is able to recoup as much as 40% of the power that otherwise would be lost according to a field test at REgrid Power Inc.

Spray-On Solar-powered OLED Displays
This is one of the coolest future products I have heard about in a while: A spray-on OLED display that is self-powered through solar energy.
Japanese Mitsubishi Chemicals and Sumitomo Chemical work on spreadable electronics. The molecular soup would have OLED and Solar cell building blocks that could be spread or even sprayed ultra-thin onto walls or gadgets.

Verizon Wireless Solar Power Cell Towers
I guess when Verizon Wireless says it has the nation’s largest and most reliable voice and data network they take it seriously. Verizon released some images today of one of its solar powered cellular stations.
The particular station in the image is located in the remote California desert and isn’t even accessible by road. To maintain the station Verizon employees are flown to it via helicopter. Read more

Paint that gathers Solar Power Coming to Market
Here in Texas we tend to have mostly houses with brick, so there isn’t as much painting as there might be in other parts of the country. However, in the older neighborhoods from the turn of the century to the late 50’s early 60’s we do have lots of wooden houses that need painted frequently.
There is a new paint coming to market, at what is promised to be an affordable price that will work great in the hot Texas climate. This paint seems t be applied just like normal paint with the added benefit that it turns all the painted surfaces into solar power generating panels. Read more
