The Sony Ericsson Kurara: 720p Recording+AMOLED screen=Hot
I'm currently in a committed relationship with my Android smartphone, but that doesn't mean I have to stop looking at other devices. Some of them I might even want to oggle lecherously while sweating and mumbling under my breath. That might make me sound like a bit of a freak, but the Ericsson Kurara really does look that hot.
This new smartphone was leaked out on an Ericsson fan forum and brought into the English-speaking blogosphere by Boy Genius. As best we can tell, the Kurara is an S60-running smartphone with an 8.1 MP camera, like the Rachel. Unlike the Rachel, the Kurara's camera is supposed to be able to record in 720p HD. The Kurara is also rumored to pack an AMOLED screen, although that's impossible to confirm with the photos we have.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 Out January?
If you aren't a tech geek, you may not know what the Xperia X3 is. To catch you up, here's a primer; the X3, also known as the "Rachael" is an Android smartphone with a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4" touchscreen, and an 8.1 megapixel camera. It's pretty much the most powerful smartphone in town, and the fact that it runs Android makes it even more painfully desirable. We've been waiting for weeks to learn when it's coming out.
Boy Genius says our wait could end in January. They've heard "rumors" that the X3 will launch close to the first of the year, right along with the Xperia X2. Please note that there have been no official confirmations of this rumor. I can see a good amount of logic in the idea, though.

Sony Ericsson to Change Music, Reinvent Hyperbole
Oh my. According to Boy Genius, Sony Ericsson has just announced a major event in the history of music, scheduled for September 21st. Their 'put your ears in control' event is supposed to change the way we listen to music forever.
Like everyone else on the planet with an ear for exaggeration, I don't believe Sony will bring any revolutionary changes to the face of music. More than likely we're looking at a new Walkman-type media player. BGR notes that Eldar Murtazin expects a new radio headset to come out of all this, which sounds interesting but not earth-shattering.

Sony Ericsson Walkman W995 Review
The Sony Ericsson Walkman W995 was unveiled at the MWC 2009 in February. Our review partner Digital Trends tested the Walkman W995a phone and published a review.
Quote from the review:"The evolution of the cell-phone camera takes yet another leap forward with the Sony Ericsson W995a. Along with a Walkman-branded digital music player, the W995a includes an 8.1 MP camera, the highest resolution camera yet available on a phone.

Sony Ericsson C905a Out July 19.
It may not be as smart or as pretty as the Rachael, but the C905a is still a seriously cool phone. To start things off the C905a has an 8.1 megapixel camera with a xenon flash, autofocus, and video recording. It's got quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, in addition to dual-band HSDPA. The screen is 'scratch resistant mineral glass', so it should be at least as car-key resistant as an iPhone. There's a built-in GPS, an FM radio, and memory stick micro support for up to 16 GB.
This is definitely a photographer's phone. In addition to that big 8.1 mp camera, the C905a comes loaded with on-board image editing software. You can resize, crop, shape, and otherwise alter the photos you take right on your phone. That'll make it a lot easier to post photos to facebook, or up on your blog/website if you're a bit more professional with your photography.

First Sony Ericsson Android Smartphone Leaked
It's been a while since anything from Sony Ericsson has made me go 'Wow!'. That all changed today, with the leak of images of the first Ericsson Android handset, codenamed “Rachael”. All rumors we have of the handset are unconfirmed, but the pictures are real and we can tell a few things from those.
First of all, the Rachael has a nice big touchscreen and an extremely thin profile. It's branded as an Xperia and it's got a camera that Boy Genius says is 8 megapixels. Also rumored is auto-focus for the camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 3D graphics, and a bangin' Qualcomm 1GHz processor.

Sony Ericsson Satio Coming in Q4 2009
Okay, so Sony Ericsson has fallen on some hard times. In order to stay a major player in the mobile industry, Ericsson needs to turn their falling revenues and dipping stock price around pronto. Things look pretty dark for the once-great mobile manufacturer, but there is a ray of light at the end of the tunnel and its name is Satio (formerly known as Idou).
The Sony Ericsson Satio is one of the most impressive new smartphones coming down the pipeline right now. It's got a big 3.5” screen, an outstanding 12.1 megapixel camera, a WebKit web browser, video calling, handwriting recognition, a sound recorder, the S60 Symbian OS, and a whole slew of other features.

Sony Ericsson Unveils the W205 Walkman for First-Time Buyers
Sony Ericsson today unveiled the W205 Walkman slider mobile phone, a low-end model targeted at younger, first-time mobile phone buyers.
The W205 does not stray far from the active and sporty spirit of other mobiles in the Walkman line, offering the standard Walkman music player, Track ID song identifier, and FM radio in addition to a 1.3 megapixel camera with 2.2x digital zoom and Bluetooth technology.
At 3.4 oz the W205 is a bit heavier than the W350, another low-end Walkman model released in 2008 that some critics faulted for flimsy construction.
Those looking to enjoy their music beyond the standard speaker can invest in the Sony Ericsson MS410 Snap-on Speaker Stand accessory, offering “surprisingly good” stereo sound, according to the release.
Expect the W205 Walkman in select markets this quarter with the US version arriving in Q3. Pricing was not available, though an unlocked W350 costs $175 on release.

Sony Ericsson warns about Q1 Loss
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (Sony Ericsson) announced today that its net sales and net income before taxes in the first quarter of 2009 continue to be negatively affected by weak consumer demand as well as de-stocking in the retail and distribution channels.
As reported Ericsson is rumored to get out of the joint venture with Sony. If the results continue to be bad then Sony might be actually able to afford to buyout Ericsson.
Although final results may differ, Sony Ericsson plans to ship approximately 14 million phones during the first quarter of 2009 with an estimated ASP (average selling price) of EUR 120 (~$165).
Net income before taxes is estimated to be a loss in the range of EUR 340 – 390 million (~$461-$529), excluding restructuring charges in the range of EUR 10 – 20 million (~$13-$26).

Ericsson wants out of the Sony Ericsson Mobile Phone Business?
German Manager-Magazine reports that Ericsson plans to exit the Sony Ericsson mobile phone business according to their sources.
Sony Ericsson has seen better days. Their biggest issue is to offer a hot selling smartphone. The XPERIA X1 looks neat, but is not enough. Ericsson apparently wants Sony to take over their share, which is not that easy as Sony's cash stash is quite empty these days.
For Sony it could be a nice way to gain full brand recognition for mobile phones if they can excel in the current evolution of mobile phones led by the Apple iPhone.

Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman Phone unveiled at MWC 2009
Sony Ericsson unveiled the W995 Walkman mobile phone at the MWC 2009 in Barcelona.
The new W995 is the most powerful Walkman phone to date offering features like Turbo 3G, Wi-Fi and a 8.1MP camera.
Still it the W995 just bores big time. It is yet another Walkman phone that improves on hardware and software. The W995 will only be attractive to those who are already handling a Walkman phone on their commute. It is just not innovative. The new Sony Ericsson Idou concept that has also been unveiled at the MWC 2009, follows the same path and is just improving media playback with an impressive feature set, but it is not revolutionary and it most likely will not turn around sales for Sony Ericsson.
