Slim Sony PS3 Manufacturing Rumors commented by Foxconn
The rumor of a new slim Sony PS3 console got warmed up again this week. Yesterday Joystiq featured a rumor report that appeared on Chinese UDN. The report said that Foxconn and Pegatron landed the manufacturing deal for the slim Sony PS3.
Today, according to Digitimes, Foxconn issued a statement declining to comment on a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report indicating that it has landed OEM orders for a slim Sony PS3. Actually feeling the need to issue a no-comment on a rumor is raising eyebrows, at least mine.

Slim Sony PS3 Rumor for E3 2009?
The E3 news parade continues. We've just come across rumors from PlayStation Lifestyle that Sony is getting ready to reveal a new hardware redesign at E3. Details are lacking right now, but a lot of the current buzz suggests that this 'redesign' could be a slimmed down version of the PS3. According to PlayStation Lifestyle,
"When we caught wind of this, the exact word “redesign” was used, which leaves me to believe that it is indeed a PS3 slim. Announcing a different color wouldn’t exactly warrant the term “redesign”."

Schmartz PS3IR-1000 lets You use IR Remotes on the Sony PS3
The Schmartz PS3IR-1000 is an infrared (IR) to Bluetooth converter for the Sony PS3. The device offers the same functionality as the Sony PS3 Blu-ray remote control, but it accepts IR commands.
Such an IR to Bluetooth converter is great if you want to use the PS3 via your universal remote control (e.g.: Logitech Harmony 1100). In principal Bluetooth is great for wireless controllers, but it just does not fit well in the home theater ecosystem where all devices are controlled via IR.

Sony PS3 Console to be discontinued
Right on the heels of the announcement to cut the price of the Sony PS2 to $99.99, Sony is about to announce the end of the Sony PS3. The reasons for cancelling the PS3 are the current economic crisis that just is not a market for a luxury gaming console. Additionally Sony's ego cannot take more beating by Microsoft’s Xbox 360. This is a drastic move, but there is no alternative solution.
Sony is going to focus all attention now on the Sony PS2, which at the new price point has the potential to even topple the Nintendo Wii as best selling game console.

Big Sony PS3 Announcement rumored for March 31st
A rumor has sprung up that Sony will be making a big global announcement about the Sony PS3. We are possibly looking at a major price cut for the PS3 - finally. Update: Big PS3 announcement turned into big Sony PS2 Price-cut announcement.
What else could Sony announce that would be big? Of course it would be great if Sony has an unknown ace up its sleeve to take the Sony PS3 back to the front and fend off the Xbox 360.

Japan is in love with robots and there are already many companion robots available that have Wi-fi connection to offer up services via the web or a PC.

Sony PS3 gets NVIDIA PhysX Technology
NVIDIA announces that Sony licensed the NVIDIA PhysX engine for the Sony PS3.
The binary version of the NVIDIA PhysX technology software development kit (SDK) is now available to registered PS3 developers for free download and use on the SCEI Developer Network.
It looks like Sony has a change of heart and tries to make the PS3 easier to develop for contrary to these recent mind boggling comments.
The NVIDIA PhysX technology software development kit SDK consists of a full-featured API and robust physics engine, designed to give developers, animators, level designers, and artists unprecedented creative control over character and object physical interactions by allowing them to author and preview physics effects in real time.

Sony PS3 is on Purpose hard to develop for
Sony Kaz Hirai said according to CNET in an interview with the Official Playstation Magazine that the Sony PS3 is hard to develop for on purpose.
The Sony restructuring is not going to be enough to turn Sony around. They need a major brainwash to adjust to the new world order: Nintendo rules. Microsoft knows what to do with the Xbox 360. Sony PS3 sales suck.
The whole incremental release of even better games worked great on the PS2 as Microsoft just started late with the Xbox and there was no Wii. Basically if you wanted the cutting edge you had to have the PS2.
Today the Xbox 360 delivers graphically intense games well enough and the PS3 cannot leverage its hardware advantage one bit to make the real difference. For casual games it is too expensive and not as innovative as the Wii.
In such a situation to talk about stifling game developers on purpose is ludicrous. If I would be a game developer for the PS3 I would be really pissed off by such a statement.

Killzone 2 for Sony PS3 Review
Killzone 2 for the Sony PS3 is getting released on February 27th and is as reported currently the bestselling PS3 title on Amazon.com.
There are supposed to be already over 1 million pre-orders for Killzone 2 world-wide. Reason enough for Ars Technica to test Killzone 2 and publish a review:
Quote from the review: "This isn't a game that anyone will buy a system for, but it certainly does much to bolster the PS3's game library. Some of the scenes, such as the drop ships that consist of little more than falling platforms, are thrilling. The fighting itself remains fun and exciting throughout the entirety of the game.

Microsoft Xbox 360 outsells the Sony PS3 in January
Overall the video game sales rose 13% in January compared to last year which is great news amidst the recession we are in. Most of the growth is attributed to Nintendo though. As reported Nintendo sold 640,000 Wii and 510,000 DS in January.
According to NPD Group sales data the Microsoft Xbox 360 sold 309,000 units and the Sony PS3 sold only 203,000 units in January.
Even when you combine the Xbox 360 and PS3 sales they still do not amount to the the number of Wii sold in the US.

Killzone 2 is hottest next Sony PS3 Game
Killzone 2 for the Sony PS3 is getting released on February 27th and is currently the bestselling PS3 title on Amazon.com.
Killzone 2 has apparently already gained 1.1 million pre-orders world-wide according to the Guardian.
This sounds nice, but to put this into perspective, Killzone 2 is only the 9th item on the Amazon.com overall video game sales chart. The top 7 spots are taken by the Wii and Wii games and accessories. Even the 12 month Xbox 360 Live Card sells more than Killzone 2 on Amazon.

Youtube now on Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii
Youtube launched a optimized web interface to watch Youtube videos in full-screen mode on the Sony PS3 and the Nintendo Wii. Why the Xbox 360 is not supported is a bit strange. I do not think there is a technical reason. The Youtube TV service is still in beta so I suppose they will add Xbox 360 later.
The Youtube TV Website offers a dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience through a streamlined interface that enables you to discover, watch and share YouTube videos on any TV screen with just a few quick clicks of your remote control.
