BlackBerry Storm 2 Dummy Units Spotted

Topic:

BlackBerry Storm 2 Dummy Units Spotted Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

It won't be long now. Gizmodo's posted some screenshots of BlackBerry Storm 2 dummy display units over in Best Buy and Verizon stores. When the display units filter in, it's usually only a matter of days or (at most) weeks before we see a full-scale launch.

The Storm 2 is currently rumored to launch on-or-around October 25. These sightings lend credence to that rumor. I'd be very surprised if the Storm 2 launches much later than the 25th, and it's pretty much certain to hit before the end of the month.

The BlackBerry Storm has some issues. It's been panned by many critics, and users alike for it's slow speed, buggy nature, and sub-par touchscreen. For a phone that was supposed to bring RIM back into the winner's circle, the Storm was pretty much a complete failure. Fortunately, it looks like RIM has fixed the major problems of the Storm, just in time to release the vastly superior Storm 2.

If you're one of the folks who bought a Storm and immediately regretted it, you could be about to get restitution. PhoneArena reports that there is a firmware update en route to you right now. This update will make the Storm and Storm 2 "practically identical" when it comes to software.

RIM CEO on Storm Glitches: Nobody Gets It Perfect Out the Door

RIM CEO on Storm Glitches: Nobody Gets It Perfect Out the Door Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis defended his company against accusations that the BlackBerry Storm was rushed to store shelves unfinished, despite poor critical reception (The New York Times’ David Pogue in a review asked, “How did this thing ever reach the market?”) and user complaints of bugs. In a sit-down interview with Laptopmag.com, he claimed, “…of course we do a lot of testing every time before releasing these devices. And I think that it’s unfair. That’s our first touch product, and you know nobody gets it perfect out the door.”

He also reiterated RIM’s commitment to Storm users, claiming RIM “didn’t stop” and “never stopped” responding to complaints.

Lazaridis did not comment of any future products, including Storm 2 rumors. Though, he did claim they were working to improve the BlackBerry browser to offer a complete Web experience, and carrier billing for BlackBerry App World. App purchases previously ran through PayPal.

BlackBerry must have been listening to critics who slammed the mobile for its cramped keyboard and sluggish response time. The most notable being The New York Times’ David Pogue who questioned, “How did this thing ever reach the market?”.
