Nokia, Sony Ericsson and others sign 3GPP LTE Technology Contract
Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, NEC, NextWave Wireless, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks and Sony Ericsson have today announced a mutual commitment to a framework for establishing predictable and more transparent maximum aggregate costs for licensing intellectual property rights (IPR) that relate to 3GPP Long Term Evolution and Service Architecture Evolution standards (LTE/SAE).
LTE promises to make 3G networks, faster, more efficient, lower cost and more.

AMD Chief Technology Officer Phil Hester resigned
AMD's CTO Phil Hester has resigned. It is always kind of a big deal if a senior officer leaves a company. AMD also announced this week to cut 10% of their employees.
Apparently the resignation of Mr. Hester is not related to the job cut. Mr. Hester is leaving to pursue other opportunities says an AMD spokesperson.
Mr. Hester joined AMD in 2005.

Roper Mobile technology Duros Rugged Tablet PC
Roper Mobile Technology unveiled a new rugged tablet PC today called the Duros. Duros is a Windows XP based tablet PC sealed to IP-65 levels for dust and water and is manufactured to MILSPEC 810F.
The screen is an 8.4-inch sunlight viewable SVGA with resistive touch capability. The processor in the system is either a Geode LX 800 or an Intel Celeron M 1GHz. The system can have up to 1GB of RAM and 120GB of storage space. A 64Gb SSD is optional and the battery is hot swappable. Read more

Rambus Licenses High-speed Memory Technology to Toshiba
Rambus announced today that it had licensed its XDR memory architecture to Toshiba to be used in HDTVs. Rambus’ XDR, XIO and XMC will be used in conjunction to provide Toshibas HDTVs with 4.8Gbps of throughput.
The higher performance delivered by this Rambus technology will allow Toshiba’s 1080p HDTVs to operate at 120Hz refresh rates and 12-bit color depths while showing full HD PiP. Read more

Toshiba Adds X205-SLi1 and X205-SLi3 Notebooks Using NVIDIA SLI Technology
Toshiba announced the addition of two NVIDIA SLI equipped gaming notebooks to their line called the X205-SLi1 and the X205-SLi3 both of which are HD DVD equipped systems. Both notebooks feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPUs with a combined 512MB of video RAM and DirectX 10 capability.
These notebooks start at a price of $1999.99 and are available now at the Toshiba website. The X205-SLi3 includes a USB external HDTV tuner for playing live HDTV from an antenna or cable box. Both systems include an HDMI out for playing HD DVD movies on HDTV sets. Read more
