Lenovo ThinkPad Netbook: Out January 5? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

All those rumors about a Lenovo ThinkPad netbook just got a little more credence. ThinkPadToday appears to have received confirmation from someone that the first ThinkPad netbook, which will be called the X100e, will be out January 5, 2010. The slogan for this new product is purported to be, “Entry level ultra portable, the first ThinkPad of its size”.

No details about the hardware on the X100e have been released yet, and Lenovo still has yet to confirm or deny the rumors. As of right now, it's still entirely possible this product does not exist. However, the evidence against that is increasingly heavily stacked. Several images have leaked out, and rumors about the new netbooks continue to sprout like wildflowers.

Topic:

IBM Thinkpad X40 upgraded with KingSpec 32GB SSD beats today's Netbooks Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review There are only a few notebooks that age well. The IBM Thinkpad X40 would definitely be one of them if it weren't for the very slow and noisy (clack, clack, clack) 1.8 inch 20GB HDD. Since SSD became affordable I was looking into finding a SSD that would work in my 5 year old Thinkpad X40.
There have been solutions for a while that required you to do some soldering or buy a PATA adapter that works in conjunction with ZIF type 1.8 inch SSD. I am just not into soldering at all. Now a Chinese company called KingSpec is offering drop-in replacement SSD for the IBM Thinkpad X40, X41, and X41T. Read more

Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Review

Topic:

Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The test lab at our review partner Digital Trends tested the new Lenovo Thinkpad X300 and published a review.

Quote from the review: "Lenovo has released its Macbook Air “killer,” the svelte and feature laden ThinkPad X300. While Apple had to make a number of compromises on the Air to get it down to its remarkable size, Lenovo took the opposite approach and have crammed as many features as possible – including an optical drive – into the X300. It’s an expensive notebook because, unlike the Air, it comes with a solid-state 64GB hard drive standard. Read more

Thinkpad X300 indepth Review

Topic:

Thinkpad X300 indepth Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Walt Mossberg at the WSJ already gave us the big picture of the new Thinkpad X300 notebook in his review this week. Now NotebookReview has published a review of the X300 that looks at the performance of the lightweight notebook in more detail.

Update 02/26/08:
Thinkpad X300 ships

Quote from the review: "Let's get this straight; the ThinkPad X300 was not built to compete with your Quad Core processor loaded desktop. The name of the game with thin travel notebooks is using a low voltage processor to conserve power and reduce heat build-up. The ThinkPad X300 uses an Intel 1.20GHz Core 2 Duo L7100 processor that's quite capable of running office applications and performing any general web related tasks, but will not serve well for 3D graphics applications or any heavy duty rendering tasks. Lenovo ThinkPad T61p 14.1-inch and 15.4-inch Notebooks Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review ThinkComputers tested the Lenovo ThinkPad T61p 14.1-inch and 15.4-inch Notebooks and published a review.

Quote from the review: "Back in September we took a look at the new R-Series ThinkPad the R61, now it is time for the T-Series. As we explained in the R61 review the T-Series is the pricier of the 2 ThinkPad series', as it has a more powerful processor and graphics. With ultraportables being all the rage now it is hard to pack all the power into a notebook that can be easily carried around. Lenovo is able to do that with the T61p at only 1.1-inches thick and weighing in at 5lbs, it is smaller than most mobile workstations. It is also the first widescreen Read more
