Target Says Goodbye To UMD Videos

Topic:

Target Says Goodbye To UMD Videos Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review PSP's proprietary UMD media format reminds me of the pogs craze of the 90's. It didn't take them long to rise to a high threshold of popularity, but then it died off faster than a sneeze. It seems that at some point or another virtually every movie studio pledged full support for UMD.

Now, pretty much the only new movies are coming from Sony Pictures (yeah, just put two and two together). Because of the rapid decline in UMD's presence, Target has announced that they are discontinuing UMD movies, effective immediately. I can only assume that UMD music titles will also receive the same fate. Read more

Sony PSP UMD Movies Not Selling Hot Enough

Topic:

Sony PSP UMD Movies Not Selling Hot Enough Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Last year the Sony PSP UMD movie sales were still promising. Now studios start to pull back and release fewer or no movies on UMD format.

Video Business Online reports that UMD movie sales falling below expectations and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video are cutting back on movie releases.
Top UMD titles still sell over 100,000 copies. On average though they only sell about 50,000 copies. Top UMDs are comedies like Napoleon Dynamite and Sony is planning to release more of those.
I mean selling UMDs is 'free' additional revenue for the studios. I am all for those DVD UMD combo packs Sony is supposed to release. Those packs should only be a couple bucks more than the DVD alone. This would be fair to Sony PSP owners. The The Grudge UMD DVD pack will sell for $20.29 for instance. Read more

Gibbs Humdinga - Amphibian SUV

Topic:

Gibbs Humdinga - Amphibian SUV Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Gibbs introduces military version of the Aquada amphibian car called Humdinga.

Powered by a 350 HP engine, the 5-seater 'Humdinga' is capable of travelling on land at 100 mph and on water at 40mph. Although the new water SUV uses the same patented HSA (High Speed Amphibian) technological platform as the Gibbs Aquada, it shares no common component parts or systems with its predecessor.
The Gibbs Humdinga switches from land to water mode with a push of a button. The wheels retract, the power train switches from the wheels to a jet propulsion system and the vehicle is in amphibious mode.
As a concept vehicle, it is not intended that the Gibbs Humdinga will be manufactured in its current form unless Arnold Schwarzenegger orders one.
More details on Humdinga Product Page. News seen on Engadget.
