LimePC, iPod nano sized UMPC to be the hottest Product at CES 2008?
Freescale is possibly landing a major hit at the CES 2008 with their 'motherboard on-chip' processor, dubbed LimePC. We got a photo from I4U reader Jeff (Thanks!) showing the possibly called LimePC M1, which is apparently no bigger than an iPod nano.
The LimePC featuring Graphics, Audio cards, PCI, Ethernet, SATA, USB motherboard is smaller than the Apple iPod nano. Just imagine a full Linux PC inside a iPod nano - I would love to have one in my pocket!
The LimePC UMPC is running LimeOS, which is based on Linux or as my source says MorphOS. The korean press-release I found about LimePC says it is based on Debian Linux and full screen HTML based user interface and Web 2.0 applications.

HTC Shift Vista UMPC delayed
HTC has delayed the volume shipments of the HTC Shift UMPC, that was planned for December. The new delivery date for this Windows Vista UMPC is now January of 2008 according to Digitimes.
The real question is whether or not a lot of people are still waiting for the HTC Shift. The 7 inch Windows Vista UMPC is a nice piece of hardware, but it's price is around $1,500. The Asus Eee PC 8G is selling for 1/3 of that. You really have to ask yourself what more the HTC Shift is doing for you for the additional $1,000 that the Asus Eee is not doing. Additionally more low-cost Linux UMPCs will swamp the market in 2008.
Back in March when HTC announced the HTC Shift, the Asus Eee was not around. I am close to betting that the HTC Shift will be dead on arrival.

Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC Review
XYZ Computing published a review of the latest Samsung UMPC Q1 Ultra.
Quote from the review:
"This review will be looking at the Samsung Q1 Ultra (Q1U), the second generation of what is said to have been the most popular of the UMPCs, though Sony's UX was probably the best received. In the Q1U Samsung has taken a page from Sony's play book and included a QWERTY keyboard, though this one cleverly fits on slate-style device with no mechanical action necessary to get to it.

Palm UMPC ''Hawk''
Here we have another interesting and still very, very vague future product: A Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) coming from Palm. The community gave it the codename "Hawk" to pay tribute to Jeff Hawkins, one of Palm's founders.
That Palm would create a new device that is not a phone and not a PDA is a topic since years.
First more focused rumors of the Palm Hawk sprung up in March on the Palm Forums. Brighthand (via Gizmodo) reiterated the rumor yesterday with some predictions what the Hawk is supposed to be.

HTC Shift May...Shift...Opinions on UMPCs
When I first heard of UMPC systems they sounded really cool. Then they came out and I realized most of them were stripped out machines running weird operating systems without enough storage space to run any apps I was interested in.
HTC has a sweet net UMPC called the Shift that is a system I could see myself using. The little PC has a seven inch touch screen and a real keyboard and a sliding and tilting screen so it might actually be comfortable to work on. Read more
