Verizon's New Netbook: The Vaio P?
Verizon already carries three netbooks and, if this rumor from PhoneArena (via Electronista) is correct, a fourth is on the way. The Sony Vaio P netbook is said to be making its way to Big Red for a very low price; $300. The Vaio P retails for $850, which means quite a subsidy from Verizon, and quite a deal for their customers.

Sony VAIO NW VGN-NW150J Notebook Review
Our review partner Digital Trends tested the Blu-ray packing Sony VAIO NW VGN-NW150J Notebook.
Quote from the review:
"Sony builds pretty notebooks, and the VAIO NW series is no exception. The textured plastic enclosure looks fabulous in silver, and it resists fingerprints far better than the glossy finishes that have become so common. While it's exciting to see a Blu-ray drive in a notebook at this price point ($880), it's unfortunate that the battery doesn't have enough juice to finish a feature-length movie.

Some of the details of the new super-slim Sony VAIO X notebook leaked earlier, but now Sony officially lists the Sony VAIO X Windows 7 notebook on SonyStyle in all its glory.
Sony says the new VAIO X Series notebook is the world's lightest notebook weighing 1.6 pounds. The question to discuss though is if the VAIO X is actually a notebook and not an expensive netbook as it runs on an Intel Atom Processor Z550 (2GHz).

Sony Vaio X Series Price And Specifications Leak
Sony is billing their X-Series as the "world's lightest notebook". At just 1.6 lbs, his new Vaio definitely qualifies as petite. All Sony has told us about this new notebook is that it is tiny, and that it packs an 11.1" screen. Thanks to leaks from Boy Genius, we may now know a little more of the story.
Apparently the X-Series will come with normal, and "super-extended" battery options. The normal battery will be good for 3.5 hours of life, while the extended battery is said to last up to 14 hours. The X-Series touchpad is said to feature multitouch functionality, which is also something worth getting excited about.

Touchscreen VAIO's this Fall
It's just been announced that Sony is going to launch a new wave of VAIO laptops this Fall. At least a few of those new machines will come with touchscreens. This move would make Sony one of the only major manufacturers to roll out touchscreen computers on any sort of large scale.
This bevy of new VAIO's has been scheduled for a Fall release in order to coincide with the launch of Windows 7. In addition to handling touch interfaces better than Vista, Win 7 also holds some other interest for Sony. They're working on pushing their PlayStation Network further into the PC market, and Windows 7 is where it's likely to start. PSN won't be focused on games as much as on TV or movies.

Sony Vaio P 2 Comes This October.
The Sony Vaio P-series hasn't been an overwhelming seller. Part of that may be due to the annoying 90 second boot time, but a lot of it is probably because of the $1000+ price tag. That's a ridiculous amount to charge for what amounts to an extra-tiny netbook. You could buy two or three Asus or HP machines for the cost of the P, and you wouldn't lose out any on performance.
Of course, performance is valued differently by different people. The Vaio P is a gorgeous little netbook, and it's just about small enough to fit into cargo pants. It's extra portable, and it's pretty enough to show off to all the poor schlubs around you who went with less ostentatious machine. If you're the type of person who is willing to pay a little (read; a lot) more for a sexier product, I've got some good news for you.

Sony VAIO Mini W Netbook comes to US and Europe
Earlier today we reported about Sony introducing its first Netbook in Japan with the Sony VAIO W Series. The Sony VAIO W is not a stunner and just a netbook offering the same old same old. For that reason I thought Sony might keep this one in Japan and go global with the next netbook series. I was wrong. Sony announced the VAIO W netbooks also for the U.S. and Europe now.
Sony actually calls the netbook VAIO mini.

First Sony Netbook unveiled with VAIO W Series VPCW119XJ
Sony announced their first Netbook today with the Sony VAIO W Series VPCW119XJ. Sony vehemently claimes that the Sony VAIO P is not a netbook, but the Sony VAIO W Series is definitely one as it runs on an Intel Atom CPU and the Japanese to English translation reveals the term Internet Book.
The Sony VAIO W sports the typical Netbook specifications with Intel Atom N280 (1.66 GHz), 10.1 inch screen with 1366 × 768px, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Intel GMA 950 Graphics, W-LAN b/g/n, Camera, Bluetooth, 3.5h battery and Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.

Sony Announces Vaio NW Series.
Today Sony announced the upcoming release of the Vaio Nw series of PC notebooks. This new line of high-end media laptops starts at $800 for the basic model. The upgraded model with a Blu-ray Disc drive costs just $80 more. Sony has made a point of stating that these new Vaios are the first part of a new series, so we should see a greater variety of Vaio NWs come out over the next few months.
The first models announced have a high-res 15.5” wide screen monitor with Sony's XBRITE-ECO LCD technology to render movies in higher detail. These new Vaio's also have HDMI output connector, so that you can hook them up to a high-def TV and media box for a while. The NW series comes in your choice of either birch white, walnut brown, or rattan silver. If those names sound a little ridiculous to you, you aren't alone.

Sony VAIO P Gets Z550 and WiMax
Sony is still trying to lure people to adopt their admittedly slick looking VAIO P. The company still refuses to call the VAIO P a netbook, even though that is clearly, what the P is. The machine is now getting some new specs.
The machine now has an Intel Atom Z550 processor and new SSD solutions. Exactly how much storage the SSD crams inside is unknown. What we do know is that Sony claims the new SSD and CPU give it twice the performance on benchmarks. Read more

Sony Changes Vaio P OS
Back in January at CES 2009 Sony officially unveiled its odd not-a-netbook called the Vaio P. Despite what Sony wanted us to called the Vaio P, the little rig was a netbook in all but name and sported the porky Vista OS.
Vista isn’t something users want to see on a netbook typically and Sony has finally relented and is now offering the Vaio P with Windows XP stock. The real problem seems to me to not be the OS choice, but rather the price the machine commands and the fact that the screen is small. Read more

Sony Vaio P Review
Sony unveiled the odd shaped Sony VAIO P at the CES 2009. Our review partner Digital Trends tested the VAIO P and did not come away too impressed. Read this review for more details.
Quote from the review: "CES 2009 held few drool-worthy surprises for tech aficionados, but Sony's svelte Vaio P definitely qualifies as one of them. The company's answer to the booming netbook market manages to make its already-small competitors look like giant toys, with typical Sony style to seal the deal.

Sony Adds InstantON Tech to VAIO P
We saw the tiny Sony VAIO P Lifestyle PC at CES 2009 and it is small. Sony doesn’t want to call it a netbook, but that is exactly what the little machine is, albeit a very thin and wide one. Sony has made an addition to the VAIO P with the inclusion of Corel's InstantON technology in the system.
Using the software VAIO P owners are able to check email, surf the net, chat, and look at photos within seconds of turning the machine on without having to boot into Windows. Booting Windows can be a slow task and an annoying one when all you need to do is look at one small file. Read more

Mannequins Escape Store Windows with VAIO P
I have seen some weird marketing campaigns before, like the Godfather video game launch that had gobs of oranges thrown into streets of some major cities. Still the new one from Sony for its "don't call it a netbook" netbook the VAIO P.
Sony has used mannequins from New York City department stores to show its VAIO P for fashion week in New York. It’s clear that Sony is trying to position the little machine as a fashion accessory. The odd campaign used ten mannequins. Read more

Sony VAIO P Buyers in UK Get Atom Z530
Sony unveiled its slick looking VAIO P at CES last week. I had a chance to look at the little netbook and play with it a bit. The 8-inch screen is strange, being longer than the typical 8-inch netbook display. However, the keyboard seemed decent enough and you can't knock how small the little rig is.
One of the things I didn’t like about the U.S. version of the P was the very pokey Atom running a meek 1.3GHz. I can only assume Sony opted for the slow Atom for its battery extending power needs. If buyers in the UK feel the same about the 1.3GHz Atom, they are in luck because Sony offers the faster Atom Z530 at 1.6GHz. Read more

Sony VAIO P officially announced at CES 2009
Today at the CES 2009 Sony introduced the VAIO P-series notebook that has been leaking over the last couple of weeks.
The new ultra portable PC comes with a unique dimension slightly larger than an office letter envelope.
The Sony VAIO P weighs less than 640g and sports 3G connectivity.
The screen measures 8-inches with a power efficient LED backlight and a resolution of 1600 x 768. Such high resolution means you won’t be scrolling the web browser side ways. You can even work comfortably with two windows side by side. A practical ‘resize’ button located below the keyboard automatically and equally distributes multiple windows across the screen.

CES 2009 to see new revolutionary Sony VAIO Notebook
Sony teases on their New Zealand website a new revolutionary Sony VAIO notebook that is supposed to change the way you look at laptops forever. The new Sony Vaio is supposed to be revealed on January 9th (CES time).
It is kind of strange that only Sony New Zealand is teasing this new VAIO. Engadget already has the right guess that the teased VAIO is a small netbook with an unusually wide screen that was spotted at the FCC in early December.
