Verizon Wireless announces Visual Voice Mail service available today on the LG Voyager smartphone.
Visual Voice Mail was first available on the Apple iPhone. Since Apple had to license Visual Voice Mail from Klausner it seems everyone who licenses from them can call it Visual Voice Mail.

Verizon targets college students with the pink BlackBerries. I am not sure why - Verizon thinks that it would add flair when they are at school or interviewing for an internship or job.

Verizon adds 1.5 million Customers in 2nd Quarter
Verizon Wireless today announced second-quarter 2008 net customer additions of 1.5 million.
At the end of the quarter the company had 68.7 million customers, including 66.7 million retail customers, which are those it directly serves and manages and who choose the Verizon Wireless brand. More customers use the Verizon Wireless brand than any other wireless brand in the U.S.

Verizon Wireless, Rhapsody (RealNetworks) and MTV Networks launch V CAST Music with Rhapsody.
V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers, for about the cost of a single CD. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.

Early June Verizon announced the LG Dare touchscreen phone. Today Verizon says that the smartphone is now available.
The LG Dare features a 3 inch touchscreen with handwriting recognition, a 3.2MP camera with face detection and flash, and photo editing capabilities.

Verizon wireless wants to be sure that mobile phone users know that texting isn’t just for kids. According to Verizon Wireless over 1 billion text messages are sent over its Florida wireless network each month.
Many see texting as something that kids use mostly, but Verizon says that texting is a good way for adults and businesses to communicate when only short bits of information are needed to be exchanged. Texting also has the benefit of leaving a record for people to reference later. According to Verizon about 20 billion text messages are sent across its network nationwide each month. Read more

Verizon Wireless and Loopt announced today that Verizon Wireless customers can now access Loopt’s interoperable location-based service.
Loopt allows friends who opt in to be located by other friends to show where the friends are located and what they are doing via detailed, interactive maps on their mobile phones. Loopt helps friends connect on the go and navigate their social lives by orienting them to people, places and events. Users can also choose to permit sharing of location updates, geo-tagged photos and comments with friends in their mobile address book or on online social networks, communities and blogs.

RiffWare Miles To Go Applications for Verizon Wireless Helps Auto Lease Customer
One of the biggest problems for people who lease vehicles is keeping track of the number of miles that they put on the vehicle. Most leases have really high mileage fees for any amount of miles that go over a preset limit.
In some cases going over by as little as 2,500 miles a year can add thousands to the amount you have to pay. A new application available for Verizon Wireless customers on their cell phones helps keep track of how many miles are left. The application is called Miles To Go and it warns drivers when driving patterns will lead to overages allowing them to adjust their habits. The application retails for $2.99. Read more

Verizon Wireless and Nokia have teamed up for a new special edition Nokia 6205 Dark Knight Edition handset. The device is a Verizon Wireless exclusive and is black with the Dark knight emblem on the back.
The flip phone also includes wallpapers, voice tones, screensavers and the full movie trailer pre-loaded. Other features include external music controls, a 2-inch LCD, Verizon V Cast compatibility and more. The camera features a 1.3MP camera phone with flash and 4x digital zoom. Verizon announces Palm Centro
Today Verizon Wireless announced that the Palm Centro smartphone will be available online on June 13th (Tomorrow).
The Palm Centro runs on Verizon Wireless’ high-speed data network and Verizon Wireless customers can also use the Centro as a modem for their laptops when they subscribe to Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess Connect service plan.

LG Dare, LG Chocolate 3 and LG Decoy new at Verizon
Verizon Wireless is expanding its LG line-up with the LG Dare, LG Decoy, and the new LG Chocolate 3.
The most interesting of the three new LG phones from Verizon is the LG Dare touch-screen phone.
The 3G V-Cast enabled LG Dare features a 3.2MP camera, in-phone photo editing tool, direct uploads to a social networking site. Other details are still not published. Verizon promises updates on the Dare later this month.

Verizon Games Offers over 1000 Games on Demand
Verizon Wireless says that it now offers over 1,000 premium games via its Verizon Games on Demand service. Verizon says that the 1,000 game number makes it the largest and most diverse library of any PC games service.
The 1,000 game milestone was hit when video game versions of classic Hasbro titles Risk and Boggle, Poker superstars III, and Cake Mania 2 were added. Verizon offers games for publishers like Ubisoft, Eidos, Scholastic, ValueSoft, and PlayFirst on its service. Read more

Verizon buys Alltell for $28.1 billion
Verizon announces that it has entered into an agreement with Alltel Corporation and Atlantis Holdings LLC, an affiliate of private investment firm TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners, to acquire Alltel Corporation in a cash merger.
Verizon Wireless will acquire the equity of Alltel for approximately $5.9 billion. Based on Alltel’s projected net debt at closing of $22.2 billion, the aggregate value of the transaction is $28.1 billion.
"This move will create an enhanced platform of network coverage, spectrum and customer care to better serve the growing needs of both Alltel and Verizon Wireless customers for reliable basic and advanced broadband wireless services," said Lowell McAdam, Verizon Wireless president and chief executive officer.
