Sony NW-A800 Walkman Review

I got my hands on the new Sony NW-A800 portable media player at the Sony Media Experience 2007 in Rhodes.

For this review I have the 2GB NW-A805 available. The new NW-A800 series Walkman is a digital audio and video player in the iPod nano size range. What catches the eye right away is the large screen. That large screen is no accident as Sony focuses on video playback on this small player.

Sony Ericsson W580i Slider Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson announced at the CTIA the new W580 Walkman phone in a slim slider design.

The Sony Ericsson W580 is only 14mm thin and has flashy light effects along the side that change with you navigating the Walkman music player.

Other features of the W580 include 2 inch QVGA screen, 2MP camera, micro memory stick slot, FM radio and Bluetooth.

Measurements of the W580i are 99 x 47 x 14 mm and the weight is 94g.

New Sony Ericsson Walkman Phones W880 / W888 and W610 Announced

Sony Ericsson officially announces today the super-thin W880/W888 Walkman music phone.

Sony Ericsson teased us early January with photos of the thinnest Walkman phone as of yet. Now the details have been released of the new W880 music phone.
The W880 is only 9.4mm thin (Thinner than Apple's upcoming iPhone) and comes bundled with a 1GB M2 Sony Memory stick. Other features of the 3G Walkman phone include a 2MP camera, 1.8” QVGA 262k TFT display, Walkman player 2.0, up to 18h music playback, Bluetooth Audio Streaming, Video recording and video playback, Full HTML browser with RSS. Sony NW-S700F Noise Canceling Walkman Comes to US

Yesterday we reported about the new Sony NW-S700F Walkman series that Sony announced in Japan. The good news is that this new Sony Network Walkman with noise canceling ear buds will be available also in the United States.

Sony only announces the NW-S703F (1GB) and the NW-S705F (2GB) for the US market. The 4GB top model NW-S706F is apparently not going to be available in the United States. Read more

Sony Video Walkman in the Works

Reuters reports that Sony said it is working on a video Walkman.

Sony stayed away from marketing portable video players. Sure the Sony PSP can play videos from memory stick and from the UMD. Still the PSP is not an iPod video or better yet an Archos 504 with 160GB HDD.

The comments Sony made at a press-conference today are actually more cryptic than the headline suggests: "We are developing a product that handles images".

Oh well, we will see what it is when Sony releases it or somebody leaks the specifications. Is actually anybody still talking about Sony's latest portable gadget - the Sony Mylo? Read more

New Sony Walkman NW-S706F, NW-S705F, NW-S703F, NW-S605 and NW-S603

Sony introduces two lines of new Network Walkman portable music player in Japan.

The NW-S700F series features noise canceling technology and FM-Tuner. The noise canceling technology uses tiny microphones integrated on the outside of the earbuds (photo below). By sending out the noise in the opposite phase surrounding noise is reduced to 1/4 of its original level.

Both new series feature a color OLED display and a cool 50 hour battery life. The top model NW-S706F features 4GB of storage. (NW-S705 - 2GB, NW-S703F - 1GB, NW-S605 - 2GB and NW-S603 - 1GB).

New 3G Sony Ericsson W850 Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson announced four new mobile phones today. One of them is the slider-style Sony Ericsson W850 Walkman phone with UMTS connectivity.

The W850 walkman music phone features a 2 inch QVGA screen, a 2MP camera with 3x digital zoom and a LED light.
Sony bundles a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo with the music phone. The new Walkman Player 2.0 supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and m4a playback.
The W850 comes preconfigured for over-the-air music download. You can listen up to 30 hours to music on a single battery charge.
With TrackID feature powered by Gracenote Mobile MusicID, you can have recorded music samples automatically identified. Read more

Sony DVD Walkman

Sony introduces DVD Walkman DVP-FX810 and D-VE7000S in Japan.

Sony takes a hint from their mobile phone business and slaps the Walkman brand on portable DVD players.

The Sony DVP-FX810 (photo below) features an 8 inch screen and a twist and fold design. The battery life is good with 6 hours.

The Sony D-VE7000S is more compact and features a 7 inch screen. Measurements of the D-VE7000S are 193.7×136.3×32.7 mm and the weight is 775g. Read more

Sony Announces the WALKMAN

Sony announces in Europe the WALKMAN. No joke, the new Sony music player is just called WALKMAN in capital letters.

Update: On the product page Sony is defining that this is actually the E Series. Not sure why they omitted this in the press-release.

The new USB stick style Flash memory music players feature a single line OLED display. The compact Sony Walkman is 79mm long and weighs only 25g. Sony highlights the fast battery charging time. A charge of 3 minutes gives 3 hours of playback time (only for ATRAC). The WALKMAN plays ATRAC, MP3 and WMA (no DRM - what a pity).
Other features of the WALKMAN include FM-Tuner, 5-Band Equalizer and a nice 28 hour battery-life. Read more

Orange Promotes Walkman Phones with Christina Aguilera

Mobile phone carrier Orange plans to promote the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones with Christina Aguilera across Europe.

Orange will offer the Sony Ericsson Walkman W300i and the Sony Ericsson Walkman W810i with special content from Christina.

France Telecom's Orange deal with Sony BMG managed Aguilera includes a 9 month marketing campaign for the Christina's upcoming single, album and European tour.

Sony Ericsson Clam-Shell Walkman Phone Leaked

A couple photos of a new Sony Ericsson Clam-Shell Walkman Phone appeared.

Dutch site newmobile has a couple hi-res photos of an unnamed Sony Ericsson Walkman phone featuring a folding design. Apparently the code-name for this mobile phone is Jing and newmobile says its the Sony Ericsson W530i.
There are no specifications yet. From the looks of this Walkman phone it could be a entry-level model. Read more

Sony Ericsson is pretty successful with the Walkman phone series. The company already shipped over 3 million walkman branded mobile phones since its introduction in August 2005.
The most recent Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone W950 features a 4GB hard-drive and supports 3G networks.
