Analyst Says: 100,000 Droids Solid Opening Weekend
If you'd asked me six months ago, I'd have said Motorola was on the fast train to bankruptcy-town. After the astonishing success of the Razr, the company fell into a sharp decline and saw their market share drop like a stone. Now, though, it appears as if it was far too early to count Moto down. They've come back swinging with the new Droid. And, so far, their Android flagship seems poised to bring the company back to solvency.
Bloomberg reports that an analyst has estimated that 100,000 Droids sold over the first weekend of sales. That's far, far below the type of opening-weekend sales we've seen for the iPhones, but for any other smartphone its extremely good. The Droid isn't going to become the sort of worldwide phenomena that the iPhone is, but that doesn't mean it won't be extremely successful.

Apple sold 750,000 iPhones over the Weekend says Analyst
The iPhone 3G S went on sale last Friday around the world. Fortune's Apple 2.0 says that Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has issued a report today estimating Apple having sold 750,000 iPhones over the weekend.
Update: Apple just announced that they sold over 1 million iPhone 3G S over the weekend.
This is quite a bit more than the originally predicted 500,000 iPhones.

Apple To Exceed 500,000 iPhone's This Weekend?
The iPhone 3GS was only predicted to sell half a million units this weekend according to Gene Munster, an analyst for Piper Jaffray. Now it looks like Munster might have to eat his words. AT&T just announced that their 3GS pre-order sales were in the hundreds of thousands.
That's obviously not close to an exact number, but if we factor in the likely-higher Apple pre-order sales we're already looking at first weekend sales of over 500,000. And that's before we take into account any of the iPhones sold in stores this weekend. Considering some stores are already selling out, and the U.K is expecting sales 50% higher than last year's 3G release, I don't think it's at all out of the realm of possibility for the 3GS to equal or exceed the 3G in first weekend sales.

Apple Expected to Sell 500,000 iPhone 3G's Over Weekend
The original iPhone 2G sold 270,000 units during its release weekend. Last year, the iPhone 3G sold over one million units during its first weekend of sales. Apple's sales numbers improved dramatically from first generation to second, and you might expect a similar rise in sales numbers for this year's iPhone 3GS. But you'd be wrong, at least according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.
Gene's taken a look at the basic facts and put together what he believes is a reasonable sales expectation for the 3GS. Last year's 3G was so successful because it represented a huge increase in capability over the original iPhone, and it was half the price. People flocked to stores in record numbers to get what they saw as a great deal.

Palm Pre: 50,000 Sale Opening Weekend
A lot is riding on the Palm Pre, and we've kept an eye glued to the new smartphone all throughout its opening weekend. The early reports sounded good, a lot of big-box stores were sold out within hours, and many Sprint stores and Best Buys have already had to call in to get restocked. Of course, the Pre shortage might have been engineered in order to increase early buzz and send more people off racing to get a Pre.
Whatever the truth there, total sales of the Palm Pre have been pretty impressive so far. The Wall Street Journal claims 50,000 sold, which is a very solid showing for any new smartphone but the iPhone, which sold 146,000 units on its opening weekend and may very well break that record in a few more days.
