Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB Desktop Drive Review
Tweaktown tested the new gigantic 2TB hard drive known as the green Monster from WD (WD20WEADS).

For enthusiasts, that number would grow exponentially and with their low cost, rightly so. Western Digital Unveils 2TB Green Hard Drive
It hasn’t been long since Seagate pulled the wraps off its 1.5TB hard drive, yet that number already seems small by comparison to the product Western Digital just announced. WD has unveiled the industry's first 2TB HDD.
Despite having lots of storage space, the drive also offers cool and quiet operation according to WD and fits into the companies Caviar Green line. The drive offers 500GB of storage per platter and a 32MB cache. Read more

Western Digital Said to be Readying 2TB Green Hard Drive
In the computer industry, there are lots of things that companies fight to have the most or least of. For instance, CPU makers battled for years over who had the most GHz in their processors. Laptop maker's fight over who has the thinnest and lightest notebooks and hard drive companies fight over speed and storage capacity.
Seagate has its 1.5TB hard drive right now, which is the high capacity king for the moment. Engadget reports that it hears rumblings that Seagate may soon lose the title of highest capacity drive to Western Digital as it readies a 2TB Caviar Green hard drive. Read more

Western Digital Announces Fiscal 2008 Q4 Revenue
It has been a big week for Western Digital. WD announced a 2.5-inch version of its VelociRaptor hard drive this week and now it is announcing its earnings for Q4 of its fiscal 2008 year. WD posted revenue of $8.1 billon and an operating income of $1 billion.
WD says net income was $867 million, or $3.84 per share. The prior year net income was $564 million or $2.50 per share. WD says that the fiscal year showed an increase in revenue of 48% compared to fiscal 2007’s $5.5 billion. Revenue in Q4 totaled $2 billion and WD shipped 35.2 million units in the quarter with an operating income of $241 million. Read more

Western Digital Scorpio Black 7200rpm Notebook HDD
Western Digital announced today that it was now shipping its line of Scorpio Black notebook HDDs. The drives are all 7200RPM and use the SATA 3 Gb/s interface and have 16Mb caches. Storage capacities for the line start at 80 GB and go up to 320GB.
Common features for the line include IntelliSeek for optimum seek time with low power consumption, SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disc surface, ShockGuard protects the drive from shocks, Free-fall sensor parks the heads off the disc in less than 200ms when a drop is sensed and WhisperDrive makes the line some of the quietest drives on the market. Western Digital Announces 320GB PASSPORT USB Drive
Western Digital announced its latest PASSPORT portable USB drive today with 320GB of storage capacity. The drive is available this week online at WD’s store and via some retailers.
The 320GB PASSPORT includes software to allow the backup of data from a computer like Outlook data. Data on the drive is also protected with 128-bit encryption. Preinstalled Google software makes searching files on the 320GB drive easy to do. Read more

Western Digital's Green Hard Drive
Western Digital announced its latest enterprise hard drive today which reduces energy usage and lowers costs for data centers. The new GreenPower family of HDDs range from 500GB to 1TB storage capacity.
The drives are reliability rated at 1.2 million hours mean time between failure in high duty cycle environments. WD says these drives can reduce power usage by 40%. "Delivering up to 40 percent savings in hard drive power consumption, Western Digital's new RE2-GP hard drives are an excellent choice for customers deploying Rackable Systems' newest generation of Eco-Logical storage systems -- enabling even greater efficiency and performance," said Tony Gaughan, chief products officer of Rackable Systems.
