Nintendo E3 Round-Up: Wii Fit Plus, Wii Motion Plus, and Mario
Nintendo's E3 conference just ended, and it gave us some cool glimpses into the company's future. It wasn't nearly as much of a 'blockbuster' conference as Microsoft's, and the Wii Vitality Meter certainly isn't going to compete with Project Natal for hype, but they had a lot of cool announcements nonetheless. Here's what we can look forward to in Nintendo's future.

Nintendo E3 Round-Up: Guns, Zelda, and Wii Fit Plus.
Nintendo is an impressive company. They've been at the forefront of video gaming since the early days, and they've managed to maintain a position as a leader in the industry for years and years. Now in 2009 their flagship console is the king of the castle, and the rumors we're hearing about Nintendo's E3 plans make us think it'll be staying there for a long time to come.
First up, we can look forward to seeing the WiiFit Plus launch this E3. If you already own a WiiFit, don't worry; the WiiFit Plus will be bundled seperately from the board. Nintendo doesn't want to screw over 17 million WiiFit customers by making them buy the same peripherals twice. These rumors come courtesy of Macquarie Research, an industry analysis firm that has just released a big ol' E3 report.

Wii Fit sold an astonishing 777,000 Units in January
What are people who buy the Wii Fit board and games thinking? Do they really believe this replaces a jog in the park or joining a gym? Wii Fit is the number 1 selling video game in the United States for January with 777,000 Wii Fit systems sold.

Wii Fit gets Fitter with Riiflex Dumbells
Nintendo's Wii is the hottest game console on the planet right now and one of its top games (if you can call it a game) is the Wii Fit that allows users to exercise using the console. To make the workout even more rigorous a new weight system has been announced.
A company called Riiflex has announced a new set of dumbbells that are designed to hold the Wii Remotes. You slip the Wii remotes inside the dumbbells much like you would any other remote holder and then work out. Read more

Based on NDP sales numbers Nintendo had an outstanding month again in the United States. You would think people spend their time outside during Summer. Instead Americans bought 369,603 Wii Fit systems to apparently loose those pounds.
Nintendo managed to sell 555,000 Wii units and 608,000 DS units leaving the competition in the console and handheld gaming system market far behind.

Nintendo Wii Fit Review
Our review partner got around to testing the Wii Fit accessory for the Nintendo Wii.
Quote from the review: "Exercise-oriented video games aren't new, but Wii Fit is certainly the most technically advanced one yet. Fun games like snowboarding, Hula Hoop, and tightrope keep it from being tedious.

Weak Dollar Reason for Wii and Wii Fit Shortage
The LA Times ran a story yesterday about the fact that the Wii Fit is sold out in the United States. The Wii fitness accessory is as hard to get as a Wii console. In that article analyst Michael Pachter is quoted saying that Nintendo shipped 4 times more Wii Fit systems to Europe because of the strong Euro.
I mentioned back in March already that the current 3rd party price of the Wii represents the Wii price in Euro. Nintendo is just making tons more money in Europe than selling stuff for weak Dollars in the United States.

To celebrate the launch of Wii Fit, Nintendo is holding an interactive release party today for the public in the southwest corner of New York’s Central Park, near the Merchants’ Gate.
As reported the Wii Fit is already in short supply. Most online stores stopped taking pre-orders in the last weeks. I just checked Wal-mart online, and the Wii Fit is back in stock and you even get still a $10 Gift Card when you pre-order Wii Fit.

Wii Fit Release to be Turning Point of ongoing Wii Shortage?
The Nintendo Wii is still a hard find in the United States. There seems to be no Wii supply problem elsewhere, just in the U.S.
Wired reports that a Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst said this week that Nintendo plans the largest marketing campaign in the companies history to promote Wii Fit. Along with the campaign Nintendo is supposed to increase the monthly Wii supply by 150,000 consoles.
The Wii Fit release is on May 19th. Comments made by Gamestop this week put a big question mark on the analyst statements. Gamestop sees the Wii supply shortage continues for at least another 6 months.

Wii Fit not available this Holidays
Nintendo introduced Wii Fit at the E3 2007 last week - In my opinion the only highlight of that rather lame show. Nintendo did not give a release date for the Fit at the E3. Apparently Wii Fit will be available in 2008 an not for this fall's Holiday shopping season.
Video game retailer GameStop
has the Wii Fit listed with a release date of 1/1/2008, which is most likely wrong. The date just marks the first day of 2008. The listed price for the Wii Fit is $69.99.
