Yamaha Unveils Orange Tenori-On Musical Thingy
Yamaha has unveiled a new, lower cost device called the Tenori-on with orange LEDs that is called a visual musical instrument. I honestly don’t get this thing. Yamaha says that the Tenori-On is now one of five musical instruments that have been inducted into the Museum of Modern Art's Architectural and Design Collection.
The device is said to be a lower cost version of the Tenori-on W that sells for $999. The New Tenori-on Orange device sells for $699.99. The only difference between the new cheaper O version and the older W version is that the new O version can't operate on batteries. Read more

Yamaha YHT-S400BL Home Theater System Is On Sale
The Yamaha YHT-S400BL Home Theater System is on sale at Amazon for $499.95.
This home theater system has a unique soundbar in that it’s more compact and versatile than other soundbars. It’s all because Yamaha was able to build a subwoofer into the slim receiver, eliminating an extra unit and the cables that come with it. This allows for convenient placement on the floor or in an entertainment center. Plus, the Yamaha YHT-S400BL is one of the slimmest soundbars on the market, this allows for placement in even the smallest of spaces.
The Yamaha YHT-S400BL Home Theater System allows you bring true High-Definition Surround Sound to any room. Unlike other “virtual surround” systems, when you listen to Yamaha’s AIR SURROUND XTREME, you can actually identify sounds located around and behind you. You hear dialogue from a clear center channel and other sounds from the front, specific sounds from the other channels to the sides and rear, and smooth movement around you. AIR SURROUND XTREME can even deliver surround sound from 7-channel sources. Read more

Yamaha YSP-4000 Sound Projector is I4U Gift Tip #95
I still have the first generation Yamaha sound projector YSP-1000 in my living room and I am still very happy with it. Yamaha offers this year the YSP-4000 Sound Projector as the top of the line model and the YSP-3050 with less power and a couple less features.
With a high-end sound projector like the YSP-4000 you do not have to worry about installing surround boxes around your living room. The single unit placed under your TV takes care of it. For the extra bass power you can connect a sub woofer and hide it in a corner.
The YSP-4000 (fits perfect under 42 inch HDTVs) provides 1080p-compatible HDMI, analog video to HDMI digital video upconversion, analog video upscaling to HD quality, iPod compatibility, XM HD surround compatibility, built-in FM tuner and a wide variety of beam settings including My Surround for true multi-channel surround sound enjoyment from a single component. It also provides an RS-232C port and IR Pass-through for custom installation.

Yamaha YSP-4000 Review
The testers at our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the new Yamaha YSP-4000 sound projector. The YSP-4000 scored a Editor's Choice award. I still own the YSP-1000 and love it.
Quote from the review: "Yamaha was one of the first manufacturers to introduce a sound projector designed to recreate surround sound from a single high-density array of drivers. Since the introduction of the YSP-1, the design has undergone two major revisions, leading up to the YSP-4000.

Yamaha Announces Flagship RX-Z11 11.2 Channel Receiver
Today Yamaha announced a new flagship receiver called the RX-Z11 that has 11.2 channel output. This beast of a receiver carries a MSRP of $5499.95 and is intended to deliver the ultimate audio experience.
The receiver carries an industry-first THX Ultra2 Plus certification, full HSMI 1.3a capabilities, network capabilities and lots of customization options and multi-zone options.
The 11.2 channel amp uses Yamaha’s proprietary cinema DSP HD3 processing which uses the front and read speakers’ algorithms to achieve 3-D surround sound height realism. It sounds to me that would mean you could hear fro instance if a helicopter in a movie was above you to the right or left as rather than simply left or right. Read more

I guess you ask yourself the same question that I asked myself reading about Yamaha developing a heat-resistant microphone for mobile phones. Why do we need a heat-resistant microphone?
The answer is intriguingly simple. The new Yamaha silicon microphone can be easily soldered during the manufacturing process of mobile phones. Handset manufacturers are able to boost production efficiency with this new component.
The Yamaha mic is about 4mm square and 1mm thick.

New Yamaha YSP-1100 and YSP-900 at the IFA 2006
Yamaha will introduce the new surround sound projectors YSP-1100 and YSP-900 at the IFA 2006 next month.
The Yamaha YSP-1100 replaces the currently available YSP-1000. The YSP-900 is the follow-up model to the YSP-800.
I own a YSP-1000 and published a review of it a while back. The Yamaha Sound projector technology is great and saves a lot of hassle with placing and cabling individual surround boxes.
Not much is known yet about the new Yamaha Sound projectors. In an overview report on TWICE about upcoming Yamaha products the new YSP-1100 and YSP-900 are mentioned.
The Yamaha YSP-1100 is supposed to sell for $1,699 featuring a larger sweet spot, RS-232 port, and IR in/out.

Tiny Compass Chip from Yamaha for Mobile Phones
Yamaha developed a tiny electronic compass chip for mobile devices.
The Yamaha YAS529 three-axis Geomagnetic Sensor IC Chip is the world's smallest of its kind. Measurements of the compass chip are only 2x2x1mm.
Yamaha wants to make the use of GPS maps on mobile phones and portable GPS gadgets easier with their new chip. The YAS529 would enable to always have the displayed map be oriented correctly. This would make the use of GPS navigation of course much more intuitive.

Yamaha Sound Projector YSP-1000 Review
I recently enhanced my new living room with an affordable but high quality home theater.
One of the important aspects for this home theater is that it is rather 'hidden'. Satellite surround sound boxes would be a big no, no. A solution to this wiring nightmare is the Yamaha Sound Projector YSP-1000.
Read my new review to find out if the surround sound performance from a single box can replace the typical 5 loudspeaker setup.

Yamaha Disklavier
I think it is easier to just pop in a Piano CD into a stereo than having a Piano play by itself, but Yamaha sure knows that there is a market for its Disklaviers.
The Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV for instance has a touch-screen panel and Wi-Fi connectivity for remote control and data transfer.
The Disklavier can also be played by musicians. It sure also has the price tags of concert grade pianos.
More details on the Yamaha Disklavier site (News Tip: Ken Wold).
