MSI Launches Wind12 U230 Light Notebook

Topic:

MSI Launches Wind12 U230 Light Notebook Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Am I the only one that thinks we have too many categories of notebook these days? It's getting to the point where it's hard to tell just what should be called what. Take the new MSI Wind12 U230. (via Engadget) It weighs less than 3 pounds (2.9, to be exact) and it packs a power-efficient 1.6 GHz Athlon Neo X2 processor. So far it sounds like a netbook.

Ahh...but it only offers 4 hours of battery life, and it comes with a 12.1” screen, which moves it from netbook to ultra-portable notebook. I think. Honestly, what we call it doesn't matter. It looks pretty and it has a “Brand new msi Ergonomic De-stress Keyboard”. Although I can't personally speak to how ergonomic that keyboard is, MSI seems to be quite proud of it.

Finding My Windows 7 Notebook: A Retail Odyssey

Topic:

Finding My Windows 7 Notebook: A Retail Odyssey Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

My journey began Wednesday night, at the Fry's Windows 7 Midnight Release Party. I spent hours there, talking to other customers and browsing a wide selection of laptops and netbooks, looking for the one that would be mine. Unfortunately, none of the machines I saw at Fry's that night met my needs. I have very specific requirements for my notebook.

In a few days, I'll be off to the U.K. After that I have a long jaunt in southeast Asia planned, followed by a leisurely ramble around central Europe. Because I'm fortunate enough to write for the Internet for a living, I'll continue to work my full-time job during my travels. In order to do that though I'm going to need a notebook to work (and live) out of.

Microsoft Signs Bing Deal With Facebook, Twitter

Topic:

Microsoft Signs Bing Deal With Facebook, Twitter Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Microsoft made waves today with the announcement that they signed two separate, non-exclusive deals with Facebook AND Twitter. (All Things Digital) This deal will allow Bing to integrate a real-time feed of updates from both websites into the Bing search engine. The deal will be announced officially by Microsoft digital head Qi Lu later today at the Web 2.0 Summit.

Both Twitter and Facebook are also in talks with Google to provide a similar service, but no agreement has yet been reached. This marks the first time that data and services are available through Bing, but not through Google. At least, theoretically it does. Integration of both sites will take several weeks (if not more) to nail down. It's still possible for Google to sign an agreement and beat Redmond to the punch, albeit not likely.
