TomTom Car Kit Does NOT Work With iPod Touch/iPhone 2G

Bad news, iPod touch users and owners of a first generation iPhone; the TomTom car kit will not work with your gadgets. AppleInsider has received direct confirmation from TomTom that neither product is compatible with the car kit. Both gadgets can handle the app, but for whatever reason the car kit is only compatible with the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The TomTom car kit offers a better GPS and higher quality audio, in addition to acting as a dock.

Matte Black Case of New iPhone 2009 Leak Confirmed

Okay, so maybe we spoke too soon. Back before the 3GS was released a picture of a matte black iPhone case got leaked out to the world. After the unveiling of the new iPhone on Monday, we all just assumed the leaked photos had been a hoax of some sort.

Apparently we were wrong. The FCC released a list of ID numbers for new cell phones. The iPhone 3GS was on there, and its model number and ID matched with the numbers on leaked backside image. It now appears that the leaked photos were real pictures of an iPhone 3GS, although obviously not of the version we saw on Monday.

Over the last couple of months we referred to the new iPhone that Apple unveiled yesterday as New iPhone 2009 in our ongoing rumor coverage. Users still google the new iPhone 2009. It is here and it is called iPhone 3G S.
Looking back, several of the rumors about the new iPhone actually turned out to be very true. HSDPA, 32GB, faster CPU, better camera, and digital compass are amongst the rumors that became reality.

iPhone 3GS: Final iPhone 2009 name?

Sure, we're only a few hours away from Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference, that doesn't mean we don't have time for a few new rumors. John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame has come out with a new list of rumors. Foremost among the new rumors was information that the final iPhone 2009 product name will be the iPhone 3GS.

It's not a particularly exciting name, but you don't need a whole lot of bluster when you've got hardware as impressive as the new iPhone is going to have. Gruber is adamant that his prior statement that the 3GS will come with twice the CPU speed, twice the RAM, and a heavily emphasized new camera still holds true. If he's right (and Engadget thinks he is) the iPhone 3GS is going to be one of the beefiest smartphones out on the market.

Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 2009 on Monday. Since last week we have seen photos leak that show what is supposed to be the new iPhone in all black.
The sources for these photos are always rather vague and all these photos could be completely fake. The fact that they are very similar could go both ways. We started out seeing photos of the new iPhone in Hong Kong. Then we have were in Italy and today we are already in France. Read more

AT&T iPhone 3G Page down, working on new iPhone 2009? [Update]

It is the weekend before the highly anticipated Apple WWDC 2009 keynote will take place and we all expect to see a new iPhone.
My update scanner just notified me about a change on the AT&T iPhone page. Well, it is gone. When you click on the iPhone feature on the AT&T homepage you get to a Site Map Page. What does this mean?
Is AT&T not taking orders for the current iPhone 3G anymore? Are they reworking the pages for the new iPhone? Is this just a fluke and the iPhone page will be back in 5min? (The time right now is 13:34 EST). Update: AT&T iPhone page is back online. Cannot see a difference. Read more

New iPhone 2009 Photos appear in Italy

We have already seen a potential new iPhone get photographed in Hong Kong. Italian site iSpazio has published two images that are supposed to show the new iPhone in an all new black design.
The images of the supposed new iPhone are very dark, but some things are visible like a green LED next to the earphone. This would point towards a front facing camera that we would need for video conferencing (iChat) on the new iPhone. Read more

iPhone Video Name rumored for new iPhone 2009

It is still hard to guess what Apple will be naming the new iPhone. It is going to be the 3rd generation iPhone. Apple could have just kept calling it iPhone like it does on its other product lines. Still for the iPhone Apple started using different names with original iPhone and iPhone 3G.

TUAW breaks a rumor that apparently Apple is planning to call the new iPhone 2009 iPhone Video. The guys tie in the leaked iPhone placeholders at Carphone Warehouse that list iPhones with the V3 moniker. I would think V3 means version 3, but of course it could also mean Video 3. Read more

I can already smell the new iPhone. The rumors and leaks intensify as we get closer to Monday, when Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone(s). Apple Insider reports that the inventory system of European bigwig phone retailer Carphone Warehouse is listing four entries for the new iPhone 2009.
The leaked screen shows a black and a white iPhone 16GB V3 and a also a black and a white iPhone 32GB V3. Read more

In only 4 days Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone for 2009. Hey, if we are lucky there will be even more than one new iPhone. Over two weeks ago we did our last Top 10 Rumors.

New iPhone 2009 to diminish Palm Pre Launch?

The Palm Pre launches on Saturday, just two days before Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone. The timing is already quite cocky. If you add the recently unveiled capability of the Palm Pre to sync with Apple iTunes, then you should expect Apple to have an answer ready for Palm.
Earlier rumors pointed to a new iPhone that launches June 17th. Walt Mossberg in his Palm Pre review says new iPhone likely is coming within a month. This would put a release date for the new iPhone latest in early July, maybe even still in June. Read more

New iPhone 2009 rumored to have Radio tagging and Nike Sport Kit

We are just days away from Apple's anticipated announcement of the new iPhone at the WWDC 2009 on Monday.
AppleInsider has a detailed report about some new features that might be found in the new iPhone 2009. Apparently there are new strings found in iTunes 8.2 that point to the ability to tag radio songs.
In May rumors appeared about some kind of FM capability inside the iPhone. Many phones have supported FM radio for a long time. Apple could be indeed motivated to add FM if they found a way to increase sales on iTunes. Read more

Old iPhones Running Out: iPhone 2009 Out Soon

Well Apple fans, it looks like the iPhone 3G is in its last days. Best Buy has warned Apple that they are running out of stock. Some of their stores will soon be out of the current-model iPhones entirely. So when can we expect the next generation of iPhones to hit?

The industry scuttlebutt says less than a month. We'll see the iPhone 2009 announced next Monday at the Apple WWDC, and we can expect to see the new smartphones released three to four weeks later. There is no concrete release date yet, but we should expect to see the iPhone 2009 out near the end of June.

New iPhone 2009 Leaks a bit in Hong Kong

The iPhone 2009 isn't very far away now, but we're still jumping at the bit to get as much info about the new smartphone as we can. This week, our burning need for Apple leaks has been sated by a Chinese blog called UMPC fever. They posted some behind-the-scenes images of the iPhone 2009's camera in action. After reading the translation, and AppleInsider's report on the entry, we've got a lot to say.

First off, we've got photos of the autofocusing feature for the iPhone 2009's camera. All you'll need to do to focus in on a certain point is tap the portion of the screen you want to focus on. A little reticule will pop up to let you know exactly where you selected to focus. The autofocusing mode works on pictures and while taking video. From what we can see, the iPhone 2009 is much better at capturing fine detail than its predecessor, which should make taking readable pictures of text (or barcodes) finally possible.

In February a photo of a new matte backside of an iPhone first appeared. Back then it was just the lower part showing. Now MacRumors actually published a photo showing the full matte backside of what could be a new iPhone 2009 next to the currently available iPhone 3G.
It is still hard to say if Apple is really offering a new iPhone in a matte case finishing. Read more

As reported last week, the new iPhone 2009 is most likely keeping the current iPhone 3G design and is just increasing performance in the CPU, RAM, Camera and possibly 3G performance (HSDPA) areas. It is pretty much sure at this point that the new iPhone will have a compass and a 32GB storage option.

The new iPhone has been rumored for a while to be coming in a 32GB version. At the end of this week two leaks kind of confirmed this iPhone rumor.

New iPhone 2009 Performance Upgrade takes Shape

That the new iPhone 2009 will be more or less a performance upgrade is getting more likely by the day. Usually well informed John Gruber at Daring Fireball published a lengthy piece featuring some of the rumors we already heard and constructs a solid picture of the upcoming new iPhone.
The new iPhone 2009 would have a faster CPU with 600Mhz instead of 400Mhz. Gruber predicts a 1.5x performance increase. Read more
