The iRiver B30: Live In The UK

The iRiver B30: Live In The UK Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Alright, iRiver might not be as big a name as Apple, and their new B30 PMP sure doesn't have all the glitz and glamor of the Zune HD, but it's still a solid-looking media player. Engadget reports that it's about to go on sale for £139 over in the UK.

For that price, you get a DAB radio with RPG recording, a 2.8" QVGA touchscreen, a microSD slot, and a battery that delivers an estimated 40 hours of audio, or 6 hours of video. There are two sizes to choose from; 8 GB at the price listed above, or 16 GB. The pricing on the larger model has not been released yet.

iRiver NV Mini Bike Edition Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Cyclists get lost too. That's why iRiver, traditionally a media player manufacturer, has released a bicycle edition of their navigation system. Slashgear reports that this revamp to the iRiver NV comes with a smaller size, no integrated DMB TV tuner, and a scaled-up touchscreen UI designed to accomodate gloved fingers.

The NV runs on Windows CE 5.0, and comes with an SDHC card slot and integrated speakers, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack. This system comes packed with an in-car mount, but you'll have to pay extra if you want to get a handlebar mount for your bicycle. The NV itself runs about $156 USD, which is a great price for a solid touchscreen navigation system.

iRiver E-Reader, Pictures+Details

Topic:

iRiver E-Reader, Pictures+Details Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

iRiver knows what's up. They took a look at the Kindle and had the same problems with it as I did. 'Sure' they went, 'it can act like a book. But it doesn't have a cover, there's no opening or closing it. That's just not as satisfying.'

The new 'Story' e-reader from iRiver (via Gizmodo) was built with us old die-hard traditionalists in mind. The e-reader, which is slim, white, and packs a QWERTY keyboard, much like the Kindle, comes sandwiched within a thin case that can seal sort of like a ziplock. This e-reader can't do wireless downloads, but it supports SDHC cards and can handle PDF, E-Pub, txt, e-comic, and Microsoft Office files. That makes it substantially more versatile than the Kindle.

iRiver Spinn Review

Topic:

iRiver Spinn Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review We already picked the iRiver Spinn as a Top 100 Holiday Gift Tip as it is one of the few interesting iPod alternatives. Engadget has now published a review of the iRiver Spinn giving it a thumbs up for the X-Factor, but a thumbs down for everyday usability.

Quote from the review: "The music player is just a little disappointing for a device of this stature. Everything is there like on-the-go playlist creation, EQ, and even some fancy options under the hood like altering playback speed, but actually interfacing with the thing requires a lot of drilling into categories and then backing back out, something the player just seems particularly unsuited to do with either its physical controls or the touchscreen. It's great scrolling through long lists with the spin wheel, but that's just not enough. Read more
