The global rollout of the program has started and it is called MySpace Music Video Experience. The product also includes a MySpace Artist Dashboard that is a free data and analytics tool for artists.

Users can now also purchase the tracks they listen to directly on iTunes. Functionality of the new service includes a new music video hub within MySpace. Music Video Recommendations based on what friends are watching, alphabetical Video search, and a video player with buy buttons. Read more

All morning we've been hearing whispered reports of a supposedly imminent buy-out of the iLike social media service by former social-media king MySpace. According to TechCrunch MySpace is very close to sealing the deal that will land them ownership of iLike for a cool $20 million.

This will be the virgin purchase for new MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta, who has spent the last few months since his ascension looking for ways to recapture market share from more popular media outlets like Facebook and Twitter. Apparently Van Natta thinks that iLike has what MySpace needs to regain some lost popularity. If you've never used it, iLike is a music recommendation service with 50 million registered users. It keeps track of your favorite types of music and offers recommendations based on that data.

MySpace co-founder Chris DeWolfe is stepping down as CEO “in the near future” and “by mutual agreement” his contract will not be renewed with parent company News Corp, according to a release. DeWolfe will remain with MySpace in an advisory capacity and continue to serve on the board of MySpace China.

While no immediate replacement has been named, All Things Digital cites sources claiming former Facebook COO Owen Van Natta is high on the list.

The move to replace DeWolfe could come in response to MySpace losing ground to Facebook, the global social networking leader, despite MySpace claiming more registered users in the US.

MySpace Video More Popular than YouTube Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review MySpace launched their video sharing service just 6 month ago and it already generates more video views than Yahoo! video and Youtube.

According to comScore Media Metrix, MySpace served 1.4 billion videos in July 2006. Yahoo! served 812 million and YouTube is third with 649 million. MySpace Video is already more than twice as big as Youtube.
Now I understand why Microsoft is building their own MSN SoapBox Video sharing service.

It looks like YouTube can not translate their first mover advantage into something that cannot be copied easily by someone with a major audience. Read more

The news that Samsung starts a music shop this week was not really exciting news. I do not think that Samsung's music store would be any competition to Apple's iTunes.
