Tethering For The Motorola Droid Is Near Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Verizon subscribers now have yet another reason to choose the Motorola Droid. While the current incarnation of Big Red's flagship smartphone is fairly hot, it lacks the ability to act as a modem for your notebook. Thankfully, GearLog has it on good authority that Verizon is about to offer tethering on the Droid.

Starting ”early” next year, subscribers who choose the “Broadband Access Connect” plan will be able to use their smartphone as a modem for an additional $15 a month. Of course, your current unlimited data plan won't apply to tethering. Users will have up to 5GB a month. Anything more than that will result in the usual steep penalties.

Epson Adds Tethered Shooting to P-6000 and P-7000 Photo Viewers Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Epson unveiled its P-6000 and P-7000 photo viewers a while back and has been adding new features to the devices ever since. The P-6000 and P-7000 photo viewers are devices that allow photographers to offload their photos to a larger hard drive for storage in the field.

The photo viewers are perfect for backing your photos up while you are shooting them. Epson announced last week that the P-6000 and P-7000 digital photo viewers have gained new features. Both of the devices can now be tethered to a DSLR camera via a USB cable. This allows the image taken to be stored to the camera's internal memory card and to the Epson photo viewer at the same time. Why AT&T Hates Tethering

Topic:

Why AT&T Hates Tethering Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review AT&T has finally decided to allow tethering on the iPhone. Of course, they're charging an arm and a leg for it, and dragging their feet on actually launching the feature. It's pretty clear that AT&T is not happy about the idea of tethering. But why have they fought against it so fiercely while other mobile carriers let it go on without charging a dime?

To be honest, the fault lies with the iPhone owners themselves. They browse the Internet 40x as often as other smartphone owners. That means extra expenses for AT&T, especially since so many iPhone users have unlimited data plans.

Palm Pre: Tether At Your Own Risk

Palm Pre: Tether At Your Own Risk Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

The Palm Pre is one of the most hackable smartphones on the planet. That's a design feature, not a flaw. Palm wants to compete with the iPhone, and one of the few areas where Apple is easy to beat is modifiability.

One of the coolest hacks we've seen for the Pre so far is the tethering modification that several enterprising Palm fans figured out early on. Sprint doesn't support tethering on the Pre, but they don't explicitly forbid it either. For a short time, guides to tethering the Pre popped up all over the Internet and all was well. Unfortunately, this golden age was not to last.

iPhone 3G Tethering coming says AT&T

Topic:

iPhone 3G Tethering coming says AT&T Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review One of the annoying disadvantages of the iPhone 3G today is that you cannot use it to connect a notebook to the internet.
Now AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega told TechCrunch's Michael Arrington at the Web 2.0 Summit that iPhone tethering is coming soon.
AT&T did not reveal if there will be an extra charge for this feature. In my value understanding using a mobile phone as a modem should be free and covered by the data plan I already have. This is how it works here in Germany with my old Nokia N80 on O2. Read more
