The development of the fuel replenishment mechanism of the type methanol fuel battery is accelerated directly for a portable equipment.
-Toukai Ltd. for practical use and joint development-
*** Type methanol fuel battery * decided the cartridge method to be adopted for the replenishment machine of the methanol solution which became a fuel aiming at the practical use of one <attention as the power supply for next generation's portable equipment> directly, and made the concept model for trial purposes at this time <Hitachi Ltd. (The execution post president:below 庄山(unknown word) 悦彦(unknown word):Hitachi)>. Hitachi develops the fuel replenishment mechanism jointly with Toukai Ltd. (The President and Representative Director:below lower reaches of a river British Jirou:Toukai), and will aim at the practical use at the early stage of the type methanol fuel battery directly for a portable equipment in the future.

To accelerate practical use in addition, the examination of the replenishment form of the methanol solution which becomes a fuel also locates it importantly though Hitachi uses nanotechnology, works on the development of the high revitalization electrode catalyst to take out electric energy of the methanol efficiently at electrolyte film *, 2 by which the methanol is not penetrated easily, and the room temperature and the film/the electrode joint body which combined these in the fuel battery field.

It is necessary to improve the density of the methanol solution to have to improve the performance of the film/the electrode joint body to improve the output of the type methanol fuel battery directly, and to achieve the drive for a long time. Then, Hitachi succeeded in improving the density of the methanol fuel because of the examination of the performance improvement of the electrolyte film which was able to be called a core material which controlled these. As a result, adopting the cartridge method for the fuel replenishment became possible, and [it] became experimental of the concept model at this time.

The cartridge development of the methanol fuel for a portable equipment is accelerated by Hitachi's basic designing, being make the fuel cartridge for trial purposes based on basic data of the amount of the methanol supply, the density to the battery cell, and the supply pressure, etc. in the future, and promoting the practical use design turned to the mass production of the cartridge in Toukai which is the leading company by (*disuporaitah*) * three.

*1 Direct type methanol fuel battery:
The fuel battery which uses the high molecule electrolyte film by which the methanol solution is made a fuel, and electricity is generated by supplying the methanol solution and air directly to the electrode. [It] is expected as (*yubikitas*) power supplies such as personal digital assistants and mobile PC, and because only water and carbon dioxide are generated when [it] accompanies the drive, a gentle fuel battery to the environment.
*2 Electrolyte film:
The material which becomes the core of the fuel battery development, and the film which consists of the high molecule by which the fuel pole and the air pole are separated. In the direct type methanol fuel battery which makes the methanol solution a fuel directly, only the hydrogen ion generated on a fuel ultra side is penetrated, and the character not to penetrate is demanded as for the methanol. Driving time of the fuel battery will stay in several hours because (*S) cannot develop the film by which the methanol is not penetrated by the current state.
