Introduction:
We reported about the FancyLogic
Napa 128MB MP3 Player on 06/30/03. FancyLogic sent us a free
sample of the Napa with a 64MB Flash-Drive. They said their free
samples for the press only come with 64MB. Little bit disappointing
but it should not change the test experience.
Hong Kong's FancyLogic is selling the Player, which is
manufactured by Chinese A-MAX Technology Co., Ltd. It is right now
on sale for $61.00 which makes it a real bargain for a 128MB MP3
player. For instance compare to the Creative Labs 128 MB NOMAD MuVo MP3.Experience:
The FLMPPA-22 is very easy to use. It does not require any
software drivers. So I just popped in the included AAA battery and
removed the cover over the USB plug of the player to plug it
directly into my Notebook with Windows 2000. The OS recognizes the
Flash Drive and maps it as a drive. I used the Free NeoAudio
to rip some of my CDs and drag'n'dropped several MP3 files onto the
MP3 drive. It is recommended to stop the USB device before removing
it from the USB port. Plugged in the included head-set and hit the
play button and I am groovin.
The black plastic case of the player has a nice soft texture. The
top buttons for play, stop, forward, backward are easy to push. the
side buttons for volume are a bit small.
The head-set is basically a cord necklace that also connects to the
player. That thing is pretty useful. It features a snap mechanism
where i can remove the player from the cord when i am transferring
files and snap it back on to wear it. The only problem there was
that i had to first connect the small included string to the player.
Doing that the coating of the little string ripped and it took me a
while to get it done. Its not a big deal but still i see the
underlying plastic thread of the string now.
I went to the gym with the player and the cord
is really comfortable. I could work out and it did not bother me. I
had the player under my shirt so it doesnt swing around. The
earpiece fit good and the sound is good. It is not the best sound i
have ever heard, but i cannot complain. I had a great work-out with
the vocal
trance music pumping through my ears.
